Family-Placed Obituary

LISA J. CAMPBELL-WIITALA Lisa J. Campbell-Wiitala passed away on Thursday, July 19 2012 at home after a long illness. She was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey on February 7, 1953 and grew up in Deal, NJ. Ms. Campbell-Wiitala attended Red Bank Catholic High School in Red Bank, NJ, Hood College in Frederick, MD, graduating with the honor of Hood Scholar, and Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, NJ. In 1979 she moved to North Palm Beach, FL to practice law. She was an Assistant State Attorney for three and a half years, was in private practice for several years and in 1987 she was appointed as a Workers' Compensation Judge by Governor Bob Martinez and was reappointed to this position by Governor Lawton Chiles in 1991. An avid horsewoman, Ms. Campbell-Wiitala rode horses competitively for 25 years. She was a "Whipper In" for the Hidden Hollow Hounds for several years as well. When she could no longer ride, her interests turned to showing pure bred dogs, specifically Rhodesian Ridgebacks. She was a member of the American Kennel Club, The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the U.S (RRCUS) and the Sunshine State Rhodesian Ridgeback Club for a short period of time. Ms Campbell-Wiitala was a former Board member of the RRCUS and a former board member of the Sunshine State Rhodesian Ridgeback Club. She also held various positions throughout the years with the RRCUS including Parliamentarian, Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, liaison to the Ethics Committee, and was a member of the nominating committee and the bylaws committee. She was also very active in Ridgeback Rescue early on, at one time holding the position of South Florida Rescue Coordinator. She is survived by her husband, David C. Wiitala; her daughter, Nicole Wiitala; two sisters, Marianne Hartin and Janet Hough; two nieces, Lisa Sharp and Laura Hough and two nephews, Michael Yaun and Austin Sharp. She was predeceased by her mother, Gerda L. Campbell and her father, Ralph W. Campbell, both of Deal, NJ. At the request of the family, services will be private.
