Malcolm PRAY Obituary

PRAY, Jr., Malcolm S.

Malcolm Sheldon Pray, Jr. of Greenwich, CT, passed away August 25, 2013 after complications following a stroke. Born in New York City, NY he was the son of Malcolm Sheldon Pray, Sr. and Frances Parker Pray and brother of Sandra Pray Culbert. Malcolm was a graduate of Brunswick School and the University of Virginia. Malcolm owned the largest complex of automobile dealerships in the Town of Greenwich, which he built from 1955 until 1999. He was devoted to his employees and customers, and his concentration on customer service earned the Pray Automobile Corporation organization a national reputation for excellence of which he was very proud. In 1999, he sold his business so he could create the Pray Achievement Center where he has inspired many young people to make goals and reach for them. He used his extensive collection of exotic vintage cars to incentivize young people with a desire to be successful. Since it opened in 2001, over eight thousand visitors have heard Mr. Pray's message. Malcolm has received many youth organization, civic and charitable awards for his continued efforts with Greenwich charities throughout his lifetime. For over forty years he worked enthusiastically with local and national Republican Party candidates and was awarded the Prescott Bush Award from the Connecticut Republicans in 1998. He was a proud American and a true patriot. He chaired two National Dealer Councils (Volkswagen and Porsche-Audi) in addition to an automobile trade association of imported car dealers in the United States, the Connecticut Volkswagen Dealers and Connecticut Automotive Trades Association. He is survived by his wife, Natalie; daughters, Sabrina Forsythe and her daughters, Courtney and Nicole Fischer, Melanie (Lilly) Pray and her daughter, Portia Pray of Boulder, CO, Justina Pray and, her daughter Natasha and son, Parker Grayson, and Malcolm's sister, Sandra Pray Culbert. Malcolm was pre-deceased by his son, Malcolm Sheldon Pray, III who died in 1986. Malcolm's wish was that his greatest legacy would be the Pray Achievement Center, in Banksville, NY 66. In lieu of flowers we ask that contributions be made to the Pray Family Foundation, which will operate the Achievement Center, so that we may continue the Malcolm Pray mission of inspiring young minds. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 21 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, CT followed by a reception to celebrate Malcolm's life.

A very dedicated Republican. He helped a lot with the Young Republicans. He did a lot for the Boy Scouts of America in Greenwich, Connecticut. Wish he were here today to inspire the youth in America. Talking to them about how they can become a millionaire.
He was truly "One of a Kind".

Malcolm said there are three kinds of people.
1. Who makes things happen
2. Who watches things happen
3. Who says, What happened!!
Malcolm made things happen!!!!! He was honest, smart, dedicated to his family, friends and business.
Wish he were still here with us. Miss him!
I was his friend and I also worked for him.

Malcolm will always have a place in my heart. My best friend for over 15 years. Taught me the automobile business and how it should treat it’s customers like the Ritz Carlton.
He is greatly missed by all who knew him. He had Class. Money can’t buy that. You either have it or you don’t.
A family man.
Miss you Malcolm.

Malcolm Pray created special moments in his life and heart for young people who struggled to overcome adversity and find their place in this world. He offered advice and encouragement and often shared his own personal history with them.
A million thanks Mr. Pray. Heaven holds
a special place for those who care for the young.

As a former resident of Belle Haven, I watched Malcolm build his auto business into a giant. It was such a pleasure to be able to witness and participate in Malcolm's enthusiasm for fine automobiles and for the continuance of the American dream through his Achivement Center. It would not have been a real Greenwich Concours without at least one of Malcolm's cars in evidence. An all around good guy. Requiescat in Pace.

Natalie and family; It was my pleasure to work with Malcolm for many years furthering the cause of Scouting in Greenwich. Malcolm was a good friend and an inspiration to me in providing community service. I grew up on Prospect St. not far from his many triumphs. The black tie events at Round Hill will always be remembered. I am very sad to hear of Malcolm's passing. Many in Greenwich will never truly appreciate what he and the family has done for Greenwich.

My thoughts turn to my father's favorite quote.

Some people make things happen.
Some people watch what happens.
Some people say "what happened?"

Make things happen in your world, for yourself and for others. Pay it forward - Give back.
