Family-Placed Funeral Notice

NANCY J. NICHOLS1936-2006 Nancy J. Nichols, age 70, passed away Wednesday October 4, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Cindy Hagopian in New Canaan, Connecticut after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nancy Jeanne Gaither on January 25, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska. Nancy was an only child but was very close to her large extended Irish Catholic family. She grew up in Omaha and attended Duchesne College of the Sacred Heart there when she was only 16. Nancy married Jack Hartnett on May 1, 1954, and had four children with him. The family lived various places including Mexico City and New Canaan, CT but called Indianapolis, IN home. Nancy was subsequently married (and widowed) to Robert Ohleyer and David Nichols. In addition to raising her four children, Nancy had a successful banking career at the Finance Center Federal Credit Union in Indianapolis. She relocated to Boynton Beach, FL in 1994 and became active in her new community. She was the Treasurer of the Colonial Club Association and worked hard for the residents to deal with substantial damage to their properties from Hurricane Wilma. Nancy was a bridge Life Master Player that competed in tournaments around the United States. She was very skilled with a needle and cross stitched exquisite samplers for her most important customers – her eight grandchildren. Nancy enjoyed the total love and support of her partner, Gerald Keavany, of Springfield, MA and Boynton Beach, FL. She is survived by her children: Sally Bradbury of Naples, FL; Kathleen O'Donnell of Des Moines, IA; Steve (Lisa) Hartnett of Rockford, MI and Cindy (Tom) Hagopian of New Canaan, CT. She will be missed by her eight grandchildren: Ross, Ryan, Josh, Patrick, Sarah, Louis, Katie and Paul. A Memorial Service will be held Friday October 20, 2006 at 10 am at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach, FL. Donations can be made in her name to Catholic Charities of Palm Beach.
