Nathaniel Jackson Obituary

Family-Placed Funeral Notice

MAJOR NATHANIEL ALLEN JACKSON “Snookie” Nathaniel Allen Jackson, aka “Snookie”, 71, of West Palm Beach, FL departed this life on Friday, September 7, 2007 after a brief illness. Snookie was born on June 30, 1936 to the late Louise Riggins Trent in Climax, GA. Major Jackson proudly served his community through his employment with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department for 20 years and he proudly was the first African American to receive the ranking of major. Prior to his employment with P.B.S.O. he was employed with Abercrombie and Fitch in Palm Beach for 18 years. Nathaniel also served his country in the U.S. Army. After many years of serving others he finally retired and Snookie began to travel extensively, taking the opportunity to cruise everywhere he could imagine. A much deserved rest! Nathaniel was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving in the choir for over 50 years. He was a proud graduate and drum major of Roosevelt High School Class of 1955. He was well known throughout the area for his ability to motivate others. Snookie was fun-loving, always had a joke to share with anyone who would listen. He is survived by his devoted wife and caregiver, Enedina Silva Jackson; son, Rhett Jackson (Merral), Atlanta, GA; daughters, Minister Wauncya Everett, Riviera Beach, FL, Kasandra Franklin, Atlanta, GA; sisters, Constance Cunningham, Detroit, MI and Jennifer Snelling (Wayne), Lakeland, FL; brother-in-law, Charles Jackson, Jr., Riviera Beach, FL; grandchildren, Choya Jackson, Hilton Jasper, Christie Cornelius, Crystal Cornelius, Rhett Jackson, II, Rodderick Jackson and Rhandal Jackson; six great-grandchildren and two stepsons, Anthony Espreo and Ricky Espreo and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and most important his buddy “Major”. Preceding Nathaniel in death was his wife of 32 years, Mildred Jackson and his brother Kermit Hadley. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 7-9 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1401 9th Street, West Palm Beach, FL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 11:00 AM at United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches, 900 Brandywine Road, West Palm Beach, FL, Reverend Paul C. Jones, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Siders Funeral Home, 1600 N. Dixie Hwy., West Palm Beach, FL. So many times I've questioned certain circumstances or things I could not understand. Many times in trials, weakness has blurred my vision and my frustration gets so out of hand. It's then I am reminded I've never been forsaken and I've never had to stand the test alone. As I look at all the victories, the spirit rises up in me and its through the fire my weakness is made strong. He never promised that the cross would not get heavy and the hill would not be hard to climb. He never offered a victory without fighting but he said help would always come in time. Just remember when your standing in the valley of decision and the adversary says give in - Just hold on our Lord will show up and he will take you through the fire again.

Sounds a little corny maybe, but I do believe that in this life there are things we will never understand and it is not an easy road to walk. I know that does not make things any easier for the Jackson’s family. I know for me that there is no way I could make it through losing a loved one without the promise of seeing them again. I also believe that in some sort of way, Nate will always be with us.

Nate now looks down upon us from her heavenly abode, and waits, just as we do, for the reuniting that God has promised. Until then, job well done Major Jackson.

My Dearest Pop-Pop,
I am at a loss right now. My heart aches at knowing that you have left me. I miss you so very much. you have been there all of my life so it is going to be tough not having you here. I love you soo very much and I will cherish the Love you have always given me the rest of my days. The kids and I will miss you calling us 6:30 in the morning just to tell us all that you've accomplished while we were asleep. We will miss you and your prank calls you liked to make to us. I have so many memories that run through my head as I reflect back. I remember as a little girl it was my job to scratch your dandruff and put lotion on your feet. I remember every Christmas going to see grandma, aunt jennifer, and boo-ba-la (kimberly) in Lakeland. or going to see the other grandma in Tallahassee. it was the first time I remembered seeing snow. I will miss you taking us to get ice cream and then going to the beach. I always thought you gave me some of the best presents at Christmas time. I know you always wished I was a boy but I know you loved me anyway! Ha!Ha! I remember watching you and Mr. Mcrae play tennis on saturday. I remember you coming to my school in your sherriff's uniform and how all the teachers would gaulk at you. I remember how cool I thought it was that my grandad had the biggest muscles in the world to me. I cannot believe that you are gone from this earth, I never thought of my life without you. No matter how hard I try to fight it I cannot hold back the tears. My Pop-Pop is gone to heaven. I just pray that I can one day see you again to hug you and tell you I Love You! To my momma, auntie cassandra, and uncle Rhett-rhett, i am sorry that I am not strong enough to be there for you but my heart is hurting as I know yours is too. I love you all! Pop-pop I will always be your noopy-nop!!!!!
Missing you Dearly
and
Loving you Much,

Uncle Snookie,

I know you aren't supposed to have favorites but you were always my favorite uncle. And I didn't even mind that I was the subject of some of your hilarious jokes because I knew that they were made with love. Some of my fondest memories of you are in my grandmother's kitchen; you might not remember but it was you who taught me how to cut up pieces of bacon into my grits. I guess it is funny the things that we remember cause it's those little things that we will never forget. Every time the sun shines I'll know that one of your jokes made God smile. I love you.

Your niece,
