Nicholas RAICH Obituary

RAICH, Sr., Nicholas S.

Nick Raich, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 12, 2013. His family includes his loving wife Sharon; their children Nick (Kim), Mike (Jill), Tony (1960-2010) (Mary), Joe (Teresa), Julie (Rob), Jane (Ted), and John (1966-1983); grandchildren, Beau, Virginia, Brooke, Katie, Brianna, Christina, Jonathan, Nicholas, Tommy, Tucker, Helene, Johnny, Gunnar, Steele, Peter, Teddy, and Ava; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Tristan, and Arianna. "Everything we are today is because of him. We will miss him dearly but take comfort in knowing that he is with his sons Tony and John in Heaven." Nick was an incredible person and an All American athlete, having played football for the University of Notre Dame from 1953 until 1956. He went on to become a successful businessman, big game hunter, speedboat racer, and pilot. Nick knew how to live life, but if you asked him about his greatest accomplishment, he would tell you it was his family. Nick served on the Board of Social and Pastoral Ministry at the University of Notre Dame; was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Edward's Catholic Church; an inductee in the Marquette High School Athletic Hall of Fame; and an inductee in the Palm Beach County Wrestling Hall of Fame. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2013 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Palm Beach, with the interment to follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach. The family will receive finds in fellowship during a luncheon immediately following the committal. It is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Nick Sr. death. There truly has not been a week in my life for the past 49 years without a thought or memory of him and or Sharon, their deceased son's John and Tony or the entire family.
I always had and still have the fondest regards and the deepest respect for
Mr. and Mrs. Raich.
Nick and Sharon were gracious, patient, kind and always tolerant of me. I met them and their entire family as a Junior in High School, Cardinal Newman in 1975. They are and were the best people I have ever had the pleasure to know. My son was named Nicholas after Mr. Nick Raich sr.

Hard to believe it´s 10 years since his passing. A couple days ago,I watched Nick #37 in the 1954 Texas vs Notre Dame game on YouTube. ND 21- Texas 0. They say his name 4 times young Nick Raich from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He kicks off and punts once. Unfortunately, he also fumbles for a name recognition. I think of him very often with very fond memories. Thanks for everything Nick!

There isn't a day that goes by I don't think of you and draw from your inner strength. To know you are in heaven preparing our next home is the only thing that helps with the emptiness in my heart. You have always been and always will be my hero. I love you Dad.

I write this with great sadness to hear that Nick has passed away. I first met Nick when I was a 15 year old boy. He was a larger than life figure in more ways than one. I have since know him for 39 years he was a true gentleman, father figure, and friend. He and Sharon somehow made it through life after losing John and then Tony. I hope the three of them have a great reunion! My sincere sympathy to the remaining family.

We hope it comforts you to realize that God is with you every minute and when sadness fills your hearts, we must believe what we can't see. Nick is with his Father; the Father that guided him through his life on earth in preparation for eternal life. Your loss is Heaven's gain. Our prayers for the Raich family are continuous and forever.

I can't say I knew Mr Raich well but I am happy to say I did share some high school football games and several cigars with him many years ago. If you weren't as lucky as I was, you can easily see him in his son, and my friend, Nick. There is nothing like a great Dad in this life. Nothing! My memory of him will be his easy demeanor and smile. His love and devotion for his family was all over his kind face and in his gentle smile. I wish everyone could understand what I am talking about. Peace.
