Palma Venezia Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

PALMA ROSE MARSILIO VENEZIA Palma Rose Marsilio Venezia died peacefully on February 12, 2010 at the St. Joseph Assisted Living Community facility in Jupiter. Her family kept a vigil for several days preceding her death. Rose was born nearly 100 years ago on March 13, 1910 in Hazelton, PA to Jenny Avillion and Salvatore "Sam" Marsilio. She grew up in Hazelton, leaving afterward to work in the garment industry in Philadelphia. She met and married S. Joseph "Joe" Venezia and bore him three sons. For medical reasons Rose moved with her husband and children from their home in Tenafly, NJ to West Palm Beach in January of 1947, where for many years she assisted her husband in operating a restaurant. She was an accomplished seamstress, dress designer, and pattern maker, having several Palm Beach socialites as her clients. Nevertheless her generosity led her to sew on a pro bono basis for the priests and sisters of St. Ann Church and Rosarian Academy. Until very recently she continued to crochet baby blankets for the poor in Appalachia and elsewhere. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph, her sister Mary and five of her six brothers: Anthony, Nicholas, Salvatore, Arthur and Robert. She is survived by her brother Joseph, her sons Richard (Colleen), Robert (Rosemary) and Rev. Arthur Venezia as well as by six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by her son Arthur on Tuesday, February 16, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in North Palm Beach. Interment will follow immediately in Our Lady Queen of Peace Mausoleum in West Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul of the Cross Church, 10970 Jack Nicklaus Drive, North Palm Beach, FL 33408. Hardly a day goes by that I don't think of some cute thing you said or at mass as I pray for our family I often feel grateful for your strong influence. Although I didn't always like your opinion I respected you . I am so blessed to be married to your # 1 son. Thanks for raising him to be such a respectable man. I love you and hope you are resting peacefully in the loving arms of Our Dear Lord & Savior . Colleen

Dear Fr. Art and family,
I was just notified of the death of your mother and will offer this evening's Mass for the repose of her soul and your consolation.
She was there for me from the first moments as a seminarian and always provided us all with an example of God's love.

In Christ,

Venezia Family

Sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She will be in our thoughts and prayers. My mom was Angelina Venezia Long from Tuxedo, NY. Our Grandfathers must have been cousins. Coincidently, my mom passes away 3 years ago on Feb. 13th and my uncle Joseph Venezia passed away this Feb. 11th. Both were in their ninties so I know how difficult it is to lose someone who has been with us for so long. My she rest in peace.

Dear Mom,

So sorry I seldom said "I love you". I only hope my actions showed it. Now it is too late.

Enjoy being with God, your family and Dad. You sure earned it.
