Rachel MANIN Obituary

Rachel K. Winer Manin, 98, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 3 in Wellington, Florida. Born Rachel Kolodiz in Chelsea, Massachusetts in 1919, she graduated from Chelsea High School, the Massachusetts teachers college at Hyannis and Boston University where she earned an MA and PhD. Rachel had been director of nursing at Boston City Hospital, a professor of sciences at Garland Junior College in Boston, and the Massachusetts Commissioner of Vocational Education. She lived in Florida for many years. Her first husband Moses Winer predeceased her, as did her second husband Myron Manin and her sister Lillian K. Stone of Arlington, Virginia and Rancho Bernardo, California. She is survived by two nieces, two nephews, and their families: niece Gail Manin Tarbox (William) and their children, Fred Tarbox, Jana Nadolski, and Jennifer Tarbox; niece Doreen Manin Soffer (Robert) and their children Rebecca Grossman, Hillary Seif, and David Soffer; nephew Douglas Stone and his children Hilary Galant, Elizabeth Stone, and Nathaniel Stone; nephew Thatcher A. Stone and his daughter Rebecca Stone; and also her very dear cousins Betsy and Leonard Bovarnick and close friends Edith and Alan Simonson. Rachel was an avid skier, golfer, bridge player and world traveler. A graveside service to take place on Thursday, March 8 at 12noon at the Polonnoe Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, Massachusetts.
