Richard BARASCH Obituary

BARASCH, Richard "Dick"
Richard "Dick" Barasch, 87 years of age, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Boynton Beach, FL on September 8, 2015. Beloved husband for 64 years of Audrey (Siegelaub) Barasch, loving father of Felice Barasch-Giedt, Spencer Barasch and Matthew Barasch, adored father-in-law of Daniel Giedt and Linda Sheriff Barasch, and cherished grandfather of Alixandra, Lance and Kaitlin. Dick grew up in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn where his parents - John and Pauline Barasch, and later his younger brother Milton - owned "Barasch's Pharmacy" at the corner of Avenue P and Nostrand Avenue for over 30 years. As a child, Dick was known for his killer ice cream sodas, speedy deliveries and his mischievous dog "Tiger" who never left his side. Dick attended James Madison High School where he starred in track. He later received a BBA in Accounting from City College of New York, where he earned a varsity letter as half-back (#53) on the CCNY football team (go Beavers) and was immortalized in the NY Times with a photo getting tackled for a six-yard loss. He was subsequently drafted into the Army and served our Country until 1947. He was also a member of the Masons for over 30 years. Dick ran a successful accounting practice in New York until 1996, at which time he retired and moved with Audrey to "The Grove" in Boynton Beach. Dick embraced retirement with great fervor. He was instrumental in forming the Grove Tennis Club and served as its President for nine years; he was a charter member of the Grove softball team; he served as Treasurer of the Grove Globe; and he and Audrey traveled extensively with their friends, children and grandchildren. Dick had an engaging sense of humor and a smile never left his face when he was around his family and friends. Services will be held Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 10:15AM at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road, Boynton Beach, FL, with internment to follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens.

I cannot think of a gin and tonic, playing tennis, or Boynton beach without thinking of you Dick. Even after 10 years I have never discovered your secret in making the best gin and tonic to drink while the sun set outside your beautiful home.
