RICHARD T. BOVERIE Retired Air Force Major General and Citicorp Executive Richard T. Boverie, 77, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, a retired Air Force Major General and corporate executive, died on June 21, 2009. Gen. Boverie was born in St. Louis, MO, in 1932. He graduated in 1950 from Christian Brothers College High School, where he was class president, hurdler and relay runner on the Missouri State Championship track team, and candidate for governor of Missouri Boys State. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1954, at which time he was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force. He was a launch officer with the Air Force's first operational surface to surface missile, the Matador; was a project officer in some of the Air Force's earliest space systems development programs; and served over time in various other Air Force and Office of the Secretary of Defense capacities in the U.S. and abroad. He completed his Air Force service in 1982 in the rank of Major General. At that point, he was a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, International Security Policy. He served on the National Security Council staff at the White House during the administrations of three presidents: President Nixon (1974) and President Ford (1974-1976) when Gen. Boverie was on Air Force active duty, and President Reagan (1982-1983) immediately after Gen. Boverie retired from the Air Force. Gen. Boverie joined Citicorp in 1983. Among other positions, he was President of Transaction Technology Inc., a Citicorp advanced technology subsidiary in Santa Monica, CA; and he established and was President of the Citicorp U.S. Service Center in San Antonio, TX. He retired from Citicorp in 1994. Gen. Boverie earned three master of science degrees: M.S., aeronautical and astronautical engineering, University of Michigan; M.S., instrumentation engineering, University of Michigan; and M.S., business administration, George Washington University. He also was a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College and the National War College. Gen. Boverie was predeceased by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Gudrun Elisabeth Boverie. He is survived by their daughter, Virginia Hall of MD and three grandchildren; brother Edward Glennon Boverie of St. Louis, MO. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM with a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Palms West Funeral Home, Royal Palm Beach, FL. Burial will take place 1:00 PM on October 1, 2009 with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
