Richard BROMLEY Obituary

BROMLEY, Richard S. We lost our beloved Richard S. Bromley on Sunday, November 27, 2016, after a valiant years-long struggle with Parkinson's disease and its related symptoms. Richard passed away peacefully at home at age 80. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gabrielle Bromley, who stood by him through incredible challenges, and by sons, Michael and Stephen and grandchildren, Warren and Weyland, mother, Sylvia Bloomberg and sisters, Sandra Uman and Linda Soble. Richard was born in Atlantic City December 13, 1935 and was a lifeguard with the famed Atlantic City Beach Patrol as well as a Captain of his high school basketball team. Richard graduated with honors at the age of 19 from the world renowned Swiss National Hotel School in Lausanne, Switzerland and would become the purchasing agent at the landmark Whitehall Hotel (now Flagler Museum) in Palm Beach that same year. Joining Sonesta Hotel Corp in 1958, Richard had a series of executive level positions with oversight of the Plaza and Roosevelt Hotels in New York, the Kenmore in Boston and Hotel America in D.C. In 1974, Richard launched International Hospitality Group, eventually owning and operating over 20 hotels across the United States. Throughout his life, Richard pursued those passions he held dear; including hiking and remaining close to nature, spending time on the family farm in Hopkinton, MA and in later years at Hickory Cottage on beautiful Lake Kezar, ME. Despite the challenges Richard faced in his later years, he served as a model of positivity and refused to allow his fate to destroy the sage advice and wisdom he gladly shared with family, friends and anyone who sought him out for it. Putting others first was a natural gift and Richard was a generous and selfless father and mentor to many he encountered professionally and in his personal life. We will all miss Richard's smile and big laugh and the joy he derived from the simple pleasures in life.
