My wife and I had the honor and pleasure of knowing Rita for the better part of a decade. A forceful presence and smart professional even in retirement, we knew her most especially as a loving mother and generous friend. We are deeply saddened by her loss, and miss her terribly.

Sending good thoughts and prayers to all of you! I have wonderful memories of spending summers with Rita and taking care of Jill when she was little. Many wonderful experiences with her that I would have never had if not for her in my life. May she rest in peace. Kristin Planz-Christian (from Long Island)

Rita and I worked together on her "Food Fun with Rita" radio show in West Palm Beach just a couple of years ago. But prior to that, Rita and I were classmates at Nottingham High School in Syracuse so I can say I've known her almost all my life. Despite not having seen one another for 50 years, we reconnected in 2009 and planned out and produced her one hour show on food each Saturday. Rita wanted the whole hour, with no breaks, to talk about her passion with food. Sometimes with Jill, sometimes with a guest or a caller, but most of the time it was all Rita all the time and by all measures, she was terrific. For someone who had never been on the radio before, there was never a pause, never a mistake never a struggle on what to say. She had a unique talent and she made the most of it, every day! We will all miss her laugh, her generosity, her love of life and her strength. Condolences to Jill, Richard and the family. Her mortal presence is gone but her love for all will live forever.

A great lady - in every sense of those words - has passed and we will never be the same without her. Her enthusiasm for life, her sheer joy in friendships, and unbounded optimism are a legacy she has left for all of us who knew her. To my friend, Colonel Chouinard, I send deep sympathies and hopes you will take comfort knowing how much you and Rita will be in our thoughts always.

One of the most beautifully written obituaries I've ever seen. I'm glad to see Rita is being sent out with the zest with which she ilved. I hope her memories bring each of you great laughter and joy that supercedes the sadness of losing her. She will be missed.
