Bob Gillis died on December 24, 2012 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was the husband of Pauline (Marquis) Gillis and was born November 29, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. He served our country in WWII and was a respected Golf Professional. He was the youngest head professional in New England when he accepted the Head Pro position at Intervale CC in Manchester, New Hampshire and worked there from 1952 ? 1954. Bob took his next head pro job at Concord Country Club in New Hampshire, then landed his dream job in 1957 at Bass Rocks Golf Club in Gloucester, MA, where he served until his and Pauly?s retirement in 1993. Bob & his wife then relocated to Palm Beach Gardens Florida. He served as NEPGA Secretary/Treasurer from 1964 ? 1970. Bob was inducted into the New England PGA Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his six children, Stephen and wife Betty of Gloucester, Robert Jr. and wife Pixie of Gloucester, Michael and wife Maryke of Middlesex, Vermont, Daniel and wife Zoe of Amherst, NH, Mary (Missy) and husband Shayne Kintzel of Golden, CO, and Maureen and husband John Collins of Gloucester; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 4 sisters and 3 brothers, Elizabeth Chartier of Tequesta, FL, Virginia Leary of Florida, Elaine Hiltunen of Salem, MA, Ann Laferriere of Topsfield, MA, John Gillis and Thomas Gillis of Beverly, and William Gillis of Merrimack, MA. He was predeceased by sisters Margaret Wildes and Helen Stokes, and brothers Donald and James.
