Dear Sis. JoeAnn, sons, and the entire Whitaker family,

I was saddened and shocked to learn of the passing of Dr. Whitaker. I am truly happy that I was able to talk with him at the HSBC 50th Anniversary service. He was so kind and gentle. He was a good President and truly a man of God. His influence will always live on even though he is no longer with us. My prayers are with the family. May the God of all comfort, comfort your hearts today and the days to come. Imogene Samms ( Cayman Islands)

Dear Sis. Whitaker and family.
You and Bro. Whitaker have been such a blessing in my life. I especially appreciated Bro. Whitaker's classes - his spirit, teaching and all that I learned from him -not just his teaching but from the man himself. He was a prince of a man and such a godly influence in my life. I am so sorry for "our" loss.

Dear JoeAnn, boys and families; Bertha and I convey our most heart-felt condolences and expressions of sympathies during this time of your great loss. Dr Whitaker was indeed one of our most loved "heroes of faith". Our esteem and respect for him personally and professionally we do surely express to each of you. For us it not an irrelevant confession when we say, "Our loss is truly Heaven's gain"! We will always cherish with great fondness the significant "investments" that he has made in our lives. Rest assured you continue to remain in our thoughts and prayers.

JoeAnn and boys, I am sorry I was unable to attend Bro. Whitaker's memorial service. How thankful I am that I was able to be with you at the HSBC reunion last month. Like others, I was tremendously influenced by the life of Bro. Whitaker-his compassion, his smile, his gentle spirit and gentlemaness and his sincere desire that I make right decisions for God and follow His will for my life. His sermons at HSBC always encouraged me to do right. I loved his classes-especially when he would tell stories about the boys. You have been and will continue to be in my prayers. I appreciate your friendship over the years.

March 19, 2010
I would never take away the impact Bro. Whitaker made on any of our lives as a teacher, minister, for I am but one more who can sing his praise! But with all of that has been said, one important aspect of his life has not been menitioned. His service to the community at Hobe Sound. It was on many of the ambulance runs I made with him that I learned many lessons about life, living and dealing with difficulties. I'll never forget the times the siren was sounded and guys would come running out of classes, trying to be the "one" who went on the run with him! It is one thing to teach and preach being Christ like, but something else altogether to show Christ to our communities we live in.
The list of folks he has reunited with would read like a "Who's Who" of the holiness movement. All of our names can be on that list as we live as Bro. Whitaker did- follow Christ.
My love, thoughts and prayers to the family! He was one of my life heros.
Sincerely,
Will Shook

Fourty years ago I had Mr. Whitaker for a Bible class. He was talking about Moses and how God had helped him in parting the red sea. I will never forget what he said to us. It was "God will help you no matter what you are going through." "He will lead you all the way." Some 37 years later I was going through some very deep waters spiritually and when I felt that I could not take another step I could hear Bro. Whitaker's words once again saying the words above. I stood on that so much since then.
He was a jewel of a person and has been added as an attraction to Heaven.
My deepest sympathy to each of his family.

Dear Sis. Whitaker and family,
My heart has been breaking since hearing the news on Monday morning. I am so sad that I couldn't attend the service today. I want to convey to you all my sincere condolences and prayers for God's marvelous grace to provide everything you need in these days.
I remember Bro. Whitaker as one of the greatest preachers and godliest examples of Christian principles that I have ever known. I remember sitting in his office one day during my college days seeking his wise counsel as I was seeking the Lord for heart purity. I've never fogotten his counsel and I have often shared it with others. I remember him helping in the Dedication Ceremony for our daughter. I cherish many personal conversations we had over the years. I remember his contagious smile, his tears of compassion, as well as the fire in his eyes when he was standing up for truth and righteousness. He was truly a model for anyone who wants to be like Jesus. My wife and I will be praying for you in the days ahead.

Dear Mrs. Whitaker and family,
I have no words to say that have not been said already. Glenn and I were so much helped by his words of wisdom and the example of his life. He gave us advise to a young preacher and wife - and through his sermons we gained so much spiritual help. My father (Rev. Robert Sickmiller) had him for his camp (Carson City, MI) evangelist and those times were the best. God bless you and keep you.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

JoAnne and sons: Janet and I want to express our condolences to you, and assure you of our prayers. Bob was such a gracious man; even our few minutes together at Guy Troyer's funeral a few weeks ago were a treat to me.
I trust that the all-sustaining arms of Jesus shall surround and strengthen you in these days. May His presence help to fill the emptiness, and may His grace be your comfort.
Now, it seems so "right" that you and Bob were at the HSBC 50th anniversary celebration. It was our joy to see you there.

I wish to express our prayers and deepest sympathies on behalf of my family and those of the Bible Methodist Church of Findlay, Ohio. Dr. Whitaker was a gifter leader in the church and capable preacher of the Word. At 18 yrs. of age he preached on a street corner in Louisville, KY from which a mission was started, a place where my father would later be saved and as a result the history of our family re-written. It is my prayer that you find comfort in the embrace of grace.

To the Whitaker family.
I just lost my father Guy Troyer In December. When Dr Whitaker heard he was in the hospital he stopped in to encourage & pray with him, it meant alot to us. My Mother thought so much of him that she asked to speak at my fathers funeral also. His words were a comfort to us at that time & still are. Although I personally did not know Dr Whitaker well my parents knew him & spoke very highly of him. I am so sorry for your loss but know he is in heaven with my dad & they are "home" . Dear Mrs Whitaker and family,
I was very saddened to hear of Dr Whitaker's passing. During my years at HSBC (90-95)I developed a real respect for Dr Whitaker. To the Whitaker family -- Thank you for sharing your husband/father/grandfather with us all. His influence remains with us all. Only in heaven will we ever grasp the magnitude of his impact upon God's Kingdom. Personally, I feel the loss keenly because he was one of a few who believed in me (and let me know it) when the "smart money" wasn't on me. He could see what others could not. I realize now that this was a grace he extended to many others. He was a lifter, an inspiration, and a model for me and so many of my peers. I thank God for his self-giving lifestyle. I mourn his loss with you and pray God's comfort would surround you. Thanks to God most of all that this is not the end.

Dear Family of Robert Whitaker:
We are so very saddened by the recent news of Dr.Whitaker's death. We extend our most sincere sympathies to all of you and pray that God will make you very aware of his vast supply of Grace and Love.
We empathize with the loss of your Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. Our family knows the depths of pain that this unspeakable loss must bring to you all. However, we know that our loss is Heaven's gain.
As we were considering that now another of God's Stalwarts has arrived at the Home that our Lord has promised, we were excited by the imagery that our Mother and Daddy must have been at the gates of Heaven to welcome one of thier dear Friends Home. What a joy for all of them to worship together around the Glittering Throne, the King that they loved so dearly.
Well done, Dr. Robert Whitaker-Thou Good and Faithful Servant!!

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why he left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived. And that his life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. It was a privilege to know and work with Dr. Whitaker during my days at the print shop. He was a Godly man who I looked up to during my years of service there. May God Comfort you and your family during this time. Lovingly, Sandee Wilkerson Edwards

I'm sorry to hear about Bro. Bob. I enjoyed his preaching and the interviews he did for the 50 year celebration. He influenced a lot of us young men during his years at Hobe Sound. I didn't know he was pastoring a Nazarene church and I'm sure he never thought that I'd become a Nazarene pastor as I did. I'm glad that we have hope of reunion with our loved ones who've passed on. I know that God will give you grace and strength for these days. (Bill Golden, HS 1964-66)

Our condolences to the Whitaker family. I have many good memories of Bro. Whitaker, from the time I was a student at HSBC and through many encounters and talks in later years. Certainly I count it a blessing to have known him, and am looking forward to a grand reunion day on the other side.

Dr. Whitaker was a great investor. For several years he invested in my life every Wednesday morning at Cracker Barrel. Often he would tell me stories of HSBC, of working with Dr. Herron, of raising three boys, and of being a young Christian learning what it meant to live a holy life.
Dr. Whitaker became my close friend at a very difficult time in my life, when I had absolutely nothing to offer to him. One day he said, "I don't know much about counseling, but how about eating breakfast together every week." So over the Country Morning Breakfast, he showed me what it meant to live a life of integrity. He became my spiritual father.
Even after we moved to Georgia, Dr. Whitaker called frequently and told me that every morning when he prayed for the congregation, he prayed for Amy, the boys and me, as though we were still attending Grace Church.
For the last couple of days I have dearly wished that I could talk to him just once more and thank him for those humdreds of hours and the countless prayers that he invested in me, for the times he lingered with Amy and me at the hospital and shared his thoughts about raising children, for driving through a blizzard to be with me at my dad's funeral. One day I will have that opportunity.

What a beautiful trubute to a beautiful person! It is still hard to grasp that he is no longer with us. I am a better person because of his life. I am so sad that I cannot attend his memorial service and give big hugs to JoeAnn and the boys. Mom, Dad and Eddie will bring my thoughts to you. I love all of you so much. Joy Vess Beaver

How we loved Mr. Whitaker! He instilled a love for Church History in us - no one could ever forget the pictures he painted for us. We loved hearing him preach - he made the stories of the Bible come alive. His personal words of encouragement continue to ring in our ears. Our lives were enriched by knowing Mr. Whitaker. We wish there were words to express how much he meant to us, and how much he impacted our years at Hobe Sound. Our prayers are with you. Ken and Donna McCain Wilson

Sis Whitaker, I was so sorry to hear about Bro. Whitaker passing. But know that he is now rejoicing with friends. Most of all he is with his Savior. I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to see you both this past 50th Reunion at HSBC. May God continue to comfort you and help you through the days ahead. May He give you strength to move forward. My prayers are with you and your family. In His Love, Pat (Terrian) Sexton

Heaven is so much richer today and we are sad at such a great loss. I have such wonderful memories of my school days at Hobe Sound. My favorite classes were those of Bro. Bob. I loved Bible Classes and Church History in high school and later in college. My prayers are with you Mrs. Whitaker (sister Bob) and your beautiful family. I will ever forget his sermon back in Feb. and the standing ovation. I thought the alumni would never quite clapping. He was so loved and respected. I pray for your comfort. We got acquainted with Bob and JoeAnn Whitaker in 1963 when we moved to Hobe Sound to teach in the Bible College. Our children were friends. Brother Whitaker was a true Christian gentleman and a wonderful friend. He was present with my family when my first husband, Ponder Frederick, died. He was a prince among men. We loved him and all the family, and we will surely miss him until we can greet him and other loved ones in heaven.

May God bless you and give you comfort. Our hearts will be with you. We are sorry we cannot be there because Carson has a funeral to preach here on Thursday. Through Dr. Whitaker we saw the character of Jesus. We will always esteem him hightly.
