Fort Wayne Rugby Club Old Boys who saw Steve at the Tournament this past summer were inspired, but not surprised, at our old teammate's tenacity in fighting his challenge.
We will miss him....but we won't forget him. Rest easy friend.

Dear Brothers Hamm-
My sincerest sympathies to you. I knew "Hamm", "Hammer", "Hambone", from a previous life as a rugby player in ft wayne. My very first road trip& game was with Steve to Purdue in April 1983- i was a mere 19yr old and he in mid30's.... he played rugby with an army cap (thought to be his dad's)and a cigar- he was a character amongst characters. His rugby stories, personality & kindess of spirit- will be missed by all his rugby family. There was a moment of silence for his passing and then a toast to him joining the other "Lost Boys of Rugby" at our semi-annual snobowl on Dec 30th. I wish you and your families the best- and want you to know that Steve will always be a part of our family. God Bless.

Our heartfelt condolences to Steve's family and friends.
Although we met Steve for the first time in August 2006, we felt we have known him for a long time.
His warm personality, his exceptional attitude facing a life threatening challenge will always be in our memories.

Dear Bill, Mike and Bob,
Steve and I shared so many happy times. A few of my favorites are the visits to my pool, the concert at John McArthur State Park we went to,his 60th birthday dinner with my family and every holiday he was my personal greeting card, leaving me a message of Happy New Year, Happy Valentines Day, Happy Easter, Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas. Steve was so kind and giving of himself to the end! He fought the battle with dignity and though it all, I learned and grew much because of Steve. I miss him.
Love,
Peri
