Susan Simon Obituary

Susan Simon
Accomplished Tennis Player, Realtor,
Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandparent
Susan Simon was born October 22, 1937 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Aida and Sylvan Heilbrunn. She was the older sister to her brother, Jonathan. She grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey and attended Columbia High School. In her youth, Susan excelled academically and enjoyed playing sports as well. She graduated from Boston University and upon graduation worked as an executive assistant for David Cronheim of The David Cronheim Company. Susan met her husband, Stanley Simon of Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1958 and enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 59 years. Together they had three sons, Michael, David, and Jeffrey. Susan and Stan enjoyed playing tennis together throughout their lives. They played many mixed double tournaments together and won the New Jersey State Mixed Doubles Championship in the 1970s, earning a qualifying spot in the U.S. Open Mixed Doubles division. Susan was a highly accomplished singles player in her own right; she had a long and distinguished record as a top ranked tennis player within the eastern region and nationally within the United States Tennis Association. Susan spent several years coaching the Women's Tennis Team for Upsala College, and enjoyed the camaraderie and mentorship associated with collegiate level tennis. Susan and Stan imparted their love of tennis on their sons and all three played high school and collegiate level tennis. Susan worked with Gail Lowenstein Realtors in Livingston New Jersey for many years and sold residential real estate throughout suburban Essex County. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, and needlepointing. Over the years, she created many incredibly detailed works of art that decorate the families' homes in Livingston, New Jersey and Palm Beach, Florida. Of all of her accomplishments, Susan was a dedicated wife and mother who put her family's needs ahead of her own. She was a straightforward and generous person who would do anything for the people she cared about. She was energetic and courageous and lived her life to the fullest and on her own terms. Susan is survived by her three sons, Michael, David and Jeffrey; five grandchildren, Samantha, Allison, Emmy, Matthew and Mitchell; and her daughter-in-law, Michelle. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and friend anyone could ever hope to have. A private graveside service was conducted on August 11, 2021 at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Susan's name to thegivebackcommunity.org, CancerCare.org or any charity of ones choosing in memory of Susan Simon. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union, NJ, 908-964-1500.

So sorry to hear of Sue´s passing. We were new friends; we met at Phipp"s Park on the tennis court. Sue loved to hit, so that is what we did. I live in Ny and would let Sue know when I was in Fla and we would hit. I will miss her.
