Thomas Gullo Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Dr. THOMAS V. GULLO 1931-2011 Thomas V. Gullo of West Palm Beach, FL, died on Sunday, September 4, 2011. He was 80. Thomas was born July 20, 1931 in Batavia, NY, a son of Vincent and Lucille Viverto. He graduated from the University of Bologna, Italy in 1959 with a Doctorate in Medicine. He returned to the US to do his internship and residency and became a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1967. Dr. Gullo practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Buffalo, NY until his retirement in 1999. Thomas was a man of love and devotion to all of those who knew him well. In particular those closest to him referred to him as "Dockie", a nickname that his daughter Jennifer gave him when she was eight years old, a name that stuck for decades to follow. Dockie was a man of many special gifts, one of which included a unique medical skill that delivered over 5000 babies into the world. He had exquisite emotion and was able to give comfort to those around him in time of need. His calming sense of comfort was infectious to those who were lucky enough to know him and experience his soulful beauty. His comforting energy was indeed a gift unique to only Dockie. In the second phase of his life, after his retirement from the medical profession, he started a new journey by joining his wife Arlene, a real estate broker for Corcoran in Palm Beach. It was here where Dockie's passion for life flourished once again and he created life-lasting, and highly respected relationships both personally and professionally. Surviving Thomas is his wife of 32 years, Arlene, his children, Mark C. Gullo (Therese), Thomas V. Gullo, Jr., Peter P. Gullo, Marisa Gullo (Mitchell), Jennifer L. Daniels, and Harvey E. Daniels, his grand children, Damien Gullo (Aubrey) and Dominic Gullo, his great grandson Colton Gullo and a devoted family pet Roxy. Thomas is also survived by a brother Vincent Gullo. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL. 33401. Tom and I started medical school together in 1953. We both graduated in 1959. Thruout those years we interacted almost daily. I was shocked to hear of his passing since we were thinking of a reunion in the N.Y. area. Tom was a smart serious student. We were looking forward to starting our adventure in the practice of medicine. We lost track of each other in the pursuit of our careers and pursuit of our families. I am so sorry we did not meet and have a chance to meet each others families. I could have predicted that he would have a successful career just on thye basis of his medical school years. Please convey my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones. Frank L. Kardos M.d. [email protected]. Please leave me an address if I have any old pictures I could forward

Dr. Gullo helped bring my two blessings into this world! I will never forget his kindness and the comfort he offered when I needed surgery. I remember prior to sedation I said to the anesthesiologist, "I need to see Doc first!" Then there he was with a smile and a pat on my hand.
My sincere sympathy to the family.

When I saw that picture of Dr. Gullo - although he is gone, it made me smile. It captured him as he was each and every time I saw him. Dr. Gullo delivered all three of my children, sent me flowers after each, called me at home after my son was sent to Children's Hospital. After my third child, I had missed my follow up appt, I ran into Dr. Gullo and his wife, he remembered I hadn't been in to see him and had his staff call me to set up an appt. He cared and showed it each and every day. My thoughts are with his family and friends who have lost such a special man.

When I saw Dockie's picture I had to smile. That's just the effect he had on people. His warmth and humor were two of his greatest assets.
I know Dockie will be missed by family and friends... but certainly not forgotten.
Keep them laughing in heaven Dockie!
Love ya.

Dr. Gullo's knowledge in his field, brought us the joy of becoming parents after years and years. He was the sweetest man, a professional, a friend to many and I'm sure a great husband and father.

To the family, his memory will live on forever for you and those he touched in life. I'm sure the patients in WNY he had will never forgot what a great man he was, and the joy he shared with them as they greated that special bundle.
