Family-Placed Funeral Notice

TIMOTHY ARNOLD BRASWELL Mr. Braswell, 76, of Charlotte, NC and Jupiter, FL, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2004, in Charlotte following an extended illness. His Funeral Service will be 11AM Saturday, November 27 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, with The Rev. Dr. Charles Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Following the interment, the family will receive friends at the home of Ken and Kim Hefner. Born November 5, 1928 in New Salem, NC, Mr. Braswell was a son of the late William Vernon Braswell and Dora Hill Braswell. He attended Kings Business College and went to work with Dixie News Company in 1947. After serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Mr. Braswell returned to Charlotte and to Dixie News where he became the manager, and later, the owner. He also owned Wilmington News Company in Wilmington, NC and Spartanburg News Company in Spartanburg, SC. Mr. Brawell was co-founder and co-owner of The Source Company. He was past president of Atlantic Coast Independent Distributors Association and was honored by Brandeis University for his leadership in the wholesale magazine industry. Mr. Braswell was instrumental in bringing ice hockey back to Charlotte and owned the Charlotte Checkers from 1993 until 1999. He was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill and First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta, FL. He was also a member of Temple Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and the Oasis Temple of the Shrine. Mr. Braswell was an avid golfer. He was a charter member and past president of Pine Lake Country Club in Mint Hill, was currently serving on the Board of Governors of Jupiter Hills Country Club in Jupiter, FL, and was a member of Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte and Elk River Club, Banner Elk, NC. In addition to his parents, his brothers, Joe Lee, Harold, and Jack Braswell, and sister, Magaret Slaven, preceded Mr. Braswell in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Macomsom Braswell; two daughters, Kim B. Hefner and her husband, Ken of Charlotte, and Tanis B. Bowles and her husband, William of Libertyville, IL; grandchildren, Randall Bowles, Timothy Hefner, Andrew Bowles and Alexandra Bowles; nephew, Joe Harold Braswell; niece, Barbara Slaven Connell and her husband, Ted; and their son, Brad Connell and his wife, Patti. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Road, Charlotte, NC 28227 or to First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta, 482 Tequesta Drive, Jupiter, FL 33469.
