Wendell WAGGENER Obituary

WAGGENER, Wendell Martin

Wendell Martin Waggener passed away suddenly on Wednesday evening August 13 at his summer home in Weems, Virginia. "Wendy," as he was affectionately known, was born in 1951 in West Palm Beach and grew up in Lake Worth, Florida. He came from a family of sport-fishing captains. His father Captain Charles "Red" was very well known as one of the pioneer Captains of the Boynton Inlet. His brother Ray, who predeceased him, was also a sport-fishing captain. Wendy was a successful billfishing captain off the Palm Beach County coast, the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Mexico, Costa Rica and Honduras. He graduated from Lake Worth High School and held an associate's degree from Palm Beach Community College. He is survived by his wife Susan Troubetzkoy of Singer Island, Florida, and his nephews David Waggener of Wellington, FL, and Christopher Waggener of Lillington, N.C. A memorial service is being planned for friends and family in about a month near his home on Singer Island, Florida.

Fond memories of Wendy. We would have lunch at the cafeteria, stroll on over to the front campus benches to chill and take in some rays until class started. Good times. A good listener and a good guy.

Wendy's passing was met with profound sadness for me and the Folmer family . My childhood friend from Whispering Pines was always a joy to be with. Playing "steal the flag" endlessly in the woods, "toss up and smear" on the sandhills, sticker fights , kickball, building and riding bikes, camping in the backyard, our paper routes for the Palm Beach Post and Times, change in our pockets for fresh fried donuts before school and so many other memories.
I am so fortunate to have shared my early years with such a wonderful person.
I lost track of Wendy after high school but I can still hear his laughter and will always cherish his kindness.

God less our buddy Wendy. We grew up in a nice place called Lake Worth and had fun at our elementary school - good ole Barton Elementary. Later we all went different ways but somehow managed to stay in touch - loosely, but in touch. In more recent years we had the good fortune of re-uniting at the Sebring Race every year and within a short time at the races it was like we just saw each other yesterday. We will sure miss Wendy and I offer my sympathy and condolences to his family.

I am happy we were able to spend the time together for the past few years. Miss ya, wish you could have stayed with us longer

Susan,
I am so sorry that I was not able to see you before you left for Florida. Although I did not know Wendy well anytime I saw him he was an engaging and delightful man. I know his passing is leaving a big emptiness in your heart. Your friends in Virginia are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers during this sorrowful time.
