Beverly Jones Obituary
Beverly Ann (Shirley) Jones
May 24, 1951 - October 10, 2025
Beverly Ann Jones (Shirley), of El Paso, IL, passed away peacefully on October 10th in her home surrounded by family, at the age of 74.
Born on May 24, 1951, in Peoria, IL, Beverly was the beloved daughter of the late Lorene and Delbert Shirley. She graduated from Lowpoint-Washburn High School in 1969 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Education degree from Illinois State University in 1973.
Beverly dedicated 13 years to teaching business at Octavia High School (now Ridgeview High School), where she touched the lives of many students with her energy, encouragement, and dedication. She later helped support her husband Jim's electrical business as office manager, before retiring from professional work to raise their daughter Erin as a stay-at-home mom-a role she treasured deeply. In later years, Beverly returned to the workforce part-time at the Illinois Agricultural Association (IAA), where her friendly personality and radiant smile built lasting friendships with colleagues.
Beverly married James "Jim" Jones on June 30, 1975, and together they celebrated 50 years of marriage in June 2025. Their bond was one of love, devotion, fun, and laughter -- marked by countless shared adventures and the joy of raising their daughter. Beverly found great joy in traveling with friends and family and treasured her time at Lake of the Ozarks, fall trips to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, winter snowmobile trips to St. Germain, WI, and many special visits to Key West, FL. Outgoing and social, she never knew a stranger and leaves behind a legacy of friendship, laughter, and kindness.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Erin Peterson (Chris) of Edwards, IL; and granddaughter, Rylee Peterson, who was her pride and joy. She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry Shirley (Jeanne) of Littleton, CO, and Greg Shirley of Washburn, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorene and Delbert Shirley.
Beverly will be remembered for her strong will, positive attitude, and unwavering faith-qualities that carried her gracefully through her battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held at Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Washburn, IL, on Wednesday, October 15th from 12:00 – 2:00 PM, followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Washburn, IL immediately following.
Memorial contributions may be made to the OSF Cancer Institute, Peoria, IL, or Illinois Cancer Care, in honor of Beverly's courageous fight and gratitude for the care she received.
Beverly's love for her family, her zest for life, and her ability to connect with everyone she met will remain an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
