Carol Schroeder Obituary

Carol Ann (Cathcart) Schroeder

April 9, 1938 - June 5, 2025

BLOOMINGTON - Carol Ann Schroeder née Cathcart, age 87, of Bloomington, went to her heavenly home at 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Carriage Crossing of Bloomington.

Carol was born on April 9, 1938, to Edwin and Margaret Kocher Cathcart in Chicago, Illinois. In second grade, Carol moved with her family to Princeton, Illinois, where she lived through completion of high school. She had many fond memories and lasting friendships from her time in high school as a Princeton Tiger. Carol worked hard to pay for and earn her teaching degree from Illinois State University, and taught at Centennial Elementary and, later, Colene Hoose Elementary, retiring in 1993. Carol also had a beautiful voice, and sang in her church and the Bloomington Passion Play choirs. Carol's faith in God and her loving church family at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church were also very important to her.

Carol married her college sweetheart, Gordon Schroeder, in 1960. They had a happy, loving marriage until his death in 2021. Carol is survived by her son, Mark (Cyndy) Schroeder, of South Boston, Mass,; daughter, Jane (Rob) Cochran of Leland, N.C.; grandchildren, Gretchen (Matt) Murphy, Sarah (Patrick) Reynolds, Anna (Austin) Taylor and Andrew (Delaney) Cochran. Also surviving are five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; and Carol's brother Jack Cathcart.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 12th,, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Ill., with Reverend Chad Lueck officiating. Visitation will be held on June 12th, from 10 a.m. to the time of the service at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Entombment will be at Park Hill Mausoleum in Bloomington immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bloomington, Ill.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Carriage Crossing of Bloomington and Transitions Hospice for the kind, compassionate and loving care they provided to Carol.

I sat with Carol many times during lunch at Carriage Crossing while visiting residents. She was so sweet. Praise God that she is at her eternal home with our Lord and Savior. Keep her precious memories in your heart.

Carol was a good friend and sang in the Passion Play Choir and at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Choir...will always remember her smile and her willingness to sing !! She and Gordon were among the first to welcome us to Good Shepherd... May the Lord give you comfort during these days. She is now enjoying and singing in Heaven !

Carol was a lovely and sweet lady. I had the pleasure of teaching with her at Colene Hoose, where she was a founding member of the Lounge Lizards. I loved being a Lizard with her. Her retirement send off from the Lizards was a Wizard of Oz revue, because she always reminded us of Judy Garland.
