Charles Johnson Obituary

Charles Walter Johnson, also known as Charlie, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 86 in Bloomington, IL. Charlie was born on July 10, 1937, in Bloomington, IL, to his parents James "Jay" and Elsie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his brother Billy and brother-in-law Claude Taylor.

Charlie was a loyal, devoted, funny, outgoing, and social individual who never met a stranger. He had a passion for buying and selling antique vehicles, shrimp fishing, attending get-togethers, and watching the Indy 500. He also loved anything sports-related, but especially if it involved the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, and Golden State Warriors. One of his favorite past times was watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in their favorite athletic activities... especially coaching from the stands!

In his educational journey, Charlie attended Washington Grade School and later graduated from Bloomington High School. Charlie was an avid athlete where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field.

Charlie proudly served in the US Navy for four years, where he acquired valuable military expertise and associations. Charlie served on USS Independence (CVA-62), aircraft carrier, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Professionally, Charlie had a fulfilling career as a Teamster and spent most of his life working construction at ROWE.

Charlie will be deeply missed by his "Little Tulip", Jane Johnson (wife), his sister Donna Taylor, his sister Mary Kearfoot, his brother Donnie, his son Mark Johnson, his daughter Stacy Foley (Mark), his daughter Jill Anderson, his granddaughter Amber Johnson (James Fleming), his granddaughter Katrina Miller, his granddaughter Annessa Anderson, his grandson Wesley Charles Anderson, his grandson Jake Johnson (Shelbi), his great-grandson Rylan Hardesty, his great-grandson Jaxon Pogioli, and his great-granddaughters Haven Anderson and Zamiah Anderson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington, IL. The date and time will be determined and announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Charlie's memory to the City of Bloomington, specifically the Fire Departments and EMS Services, or the American Heart Association.

The East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, IL is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.

May Charlie rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. See you in church!
