NORMAL - Daniel Gale Thames, 61, passed away on July 20, 2025, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Ill.

Dan was born on June 8, 1964, in Bloomington, Ill.; son of Phillip Thames and Eva Kay (Rogers) Thames. He married Lisa Jackson on June 7, 2003, in Fairbury, IL. She survives him.

Other survivors include his mother, Kay; stepmother, Reta Thames; his children, Simon (Amy) Thames, Sara (Jake) Forney, Ryan Doran, Kristin (Luke) Taylor, and Brittany (Steve) Harrell; six grandchildren, Reid, Dean, Olivia, Emma, Clark, and Daphne; his siblings, Carol (Rick) Hany, Jeff (Brenda) Thames, and Wendy (Jess) Thorman.

Dan proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked at Illinois State University for nearly thirty years, most recently working as the Technology Facilities Manager. Hence, he was a proud Illinois State Redbird and enjoyed football season.

Dan had a zest for life and an adventurous spirit. He enjoyed being outdoors and making new friends wherever he went. He also loved to grill for friends and family and help them with home projects. He will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and his great love for his wife, children, and grandchildren.

A memorial service for Daniel will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday July 26, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Ill. with Pastor Lyn Kern officiating. Visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made in Daniel's name to Illinois CancerCare Foundation, www.illinoiscancercarefoundation.org. Liza, I am so sorry for your loss, for the loss suffered by the whole family and his many friends. I remember Dan back from his days as a high school wrestler, and then as a fellow staff member at ISU. What a kind man. He was never too busy to share a smile, or a laugh. Those of us who knew him need to emulate his
gentle spirit

To the whole family: I wish you God's comfort in your days of sorrow.

It has been a long time since I saw any of your family, but I will be praying for Kay, Jeff & Brenda, and Carol--the ones I used to know.

Dear Kay, Jeff, and Carol, we were deeply saddened to hear of Dan´s passing and we send you all our deepest sympathy. A child and sibling´s death brings extra sorrow and it takes time to overcome that deep sadness. We know God will be wrapping His comforting arms around you during this time and in the days ahead.
