HEYWORTH - David Alan Waibel, 64, of Heyworth, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024, in Las Vegas, NV.
His funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, with Rev. David Glesne officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2024, at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Forrest.
David was born November 10, 1959, in Fairbury, the son of Glen and Patricia (Metz) Waibel. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Harms, on May 26, 1984, in Forrest. She survives.
Also surviving are their children: Adam Waibel, Bloomington, IL, Patricia "Trish" (Sean) Dozier, Normal, IL, Sarah (Scott) Spaulding, Decatur, IL, Emily Waibel, Bloomington, IL; three grandchildren: Carter and Emilia "Milly" Dozier, Alec Spaulding, and baby boy Spaulding on the way; his father, Glen Waibel, Fairbury, IL; his sisters: Karen Roth, Shelbina, MO, Phyllis (Kevin) Krippel, Forrest, IL; father-in-law, Donald "Duke" Harms, Fairbury, IL; and many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia "Pat" Waibel; mother-in-law, Patricia "Patty" Harms; two brothers-in-law, Lester "John" Roth and Steven Weger; great-niece, Aubrey Knepler.
David was a 1977 graduate of Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School and graduated from Illinois State University in 1981. He initially worked for Nussbaum Trucking and retired as a partner and Vice President of Human Resources and Safety at Nu-Way Transportation in Bloomington, IL. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bloomington where he taught Sunday School.
David was an avid fisherman who enjoyed cheering Boomer Sooner and I-L-L-I-N-I. He treasured the numerous travel adventures alongside his beloved wife and family. David's happy place was at the lake surrounded by laughter and Fleetwood Mac music. He lived his life for his family as a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Papa, Son, Brother, and Uncle.
David was a two-time cancer survivor.
