Dawn Marie Eckhoff

Dawn Marie Eckhoff, 51, passed away on March 22, 2024, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was the daughter of Dennis "Denny" Carls and the late Dorinda (Folkerts), born in Pontiac on January 31, 1973. She married Joel D. Eckhoff on August 10, 1996, in Flanagan, IL.
She is the mother of Sydney (Jonathan) Barth and Drew (fiance Maci) Eckhoff; grandma to Saige Barth; sister to Doug (Amber) Carls; and a favorite aunt of Dylan and Delaney Carls. She is also a daughter-in-law to Alvin (late) and Eileen (Ginzel) Eckhoff.
Dawn graduated as valedictorian from Flanagan in 1991. After that, she attended SIU and then Illinois State University where she received her Bachelor's degree in teaching. She began her career, while shortly after, returning to school to receive her Master's degree from Olivet. From then on, she taught within the Pontiac District 429 schools, ages Kindergarten to second grade. Dawn spent 28 years doing what she loved, while impacting many lives along the way.
In her free time, Dawn loved to lay by the pool, online shop, and enjoy McDonald's Happy Meals. Most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was especially excited to become a grandma to Saige Marie in 2023. She was a person that loved all and remained positive no matter the circumstances. To know Dawn was to love her, and she will be missed deeply by so many.
A Memorial Funeral Service is planned at 10:00 a.m. for Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the St. Petri Evangelical Lutheran Church in Flanagan, IL. Family and Friends are asked to arrive promptly for the 10:00 a.m. service. Immediately following services will be a Celebration of Life and time for visiting at Flanagan American Legion Post #456. Burial of the urn will take place at a later time.
Memorial contributions in Dawn's memory can be made to the St. Petri Evangelical Lutheran Church or Cancer Research. Cremation Rites have been accorded by Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home of El Paso, IL.
