Donald Newby

HEYWORTH - Donald Owen Newby aka "Big Boy", 85 of Heyworth, IL passed away peacefully at his home on January 10, 2026. Born December 13, 1940 in Normal, IL to Owen and Leah Newby.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas and Kenneth Newby. Surviving are brother Ed (Susie) Newby of Bloomington, IL and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Don worked for the McLean County courthouse as the Supervisors of the Custodians, retiring after 32 years. In addition, he dedicated 46 years to the Randolph Township and Village of Heyworth. Those who knew Don, knew he gave 100% to his community and volunteer work. His latest accomplishment was being chosen as the Grand Marshal of Heyworth in the 2023 Christmas parade.

Don was an avid toy collector of John Deere and NASCAR. His home was a museum starting at the driveway leading all the way through his residence. Over the years he created multiple miniature farm and town scenes. There wasn't a bare spot on his shelves or wall that didn't bleed green and yellow. His smile couldn't get any bigger when asked about his toy collections.

A private family graveside service will be at Heyworth Cemetery, Heyworth, IL. Rev. Steve Evans will be officiating. There will be no visitation. Don always told us "It's 187 steps from my back door to his headstone."
