Donald Savage
July 17, 1931 - October 27, 2025
Donald Lee Savage, 94, of Normal, passed away on October 27, 2025 at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.
He was born July 17, 1931 in Newcomb Township, Mahomet, IL son of Roy and Opal Thomas Savage. He attended grade school and part of his freshman year in Fisher. His folks moved to Saybrook where he attended Bellflower Township High School and in 1949 he graduated as Salutatorian of his class. He later served on the Bellflower Township High School Board for 18 years.
Don proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he went into farming for the next 55+ years. He had a grain/cattle operation in southeast McLean county.
He married Louise "Lou" Bounds Schroeder on July 22, 1972 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington, IL. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2022.
He is survived by his wife, Lou; daughters, Becky Savage, Bloomington and Vickie (Mark) Poruba, Savoy and three bonus children, Lynnette (Rusty) Hendren, LeRoy, Diane (Jason) Priest, Charlotte, NC and Tom (Kelly) Schroeder, Normal. Also surviving are grandchildren, Nathan (Lindsay) Sharp, Adam (Hallie) Sharp and Nicole Sharp and her friend, Rob Ackart; bonus grandchildren, Jacob (Stacie) Hendren, Dr. Jared Hendren, Emily Hendren and Collin Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Emmalynn and Keegan Sharp, Aiden and Riley Sharp and one brother, Leonard (Norma) Savage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Louise, his first wife, Betty and a daughter, Debbie Savage.
Don was a man who loved his wife and family dearly. Over the years he had memberships with the Bellflower Methodist Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osman, where he held many offices over the years. He currently was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington.
To honor Don's wishes, he will be cremated. There will be a celebration of life service for the immediate family at a later date. East Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
