BONITA SPRINGS, Florida - Friedman, Doris Jane of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on May 28, 2024. Born on September 16, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, to parents, Howard W. and Charlotte L. (Bentote) Decker, both deceased.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin R. Friedman; her sister, Susan (Fred) Elston, Phoenix, AZ; her children, David (Donna) Rediger, Mahomet, IL, Andrea Rediger, Bonita Springs, FL, Michele (Matthew) Harris, Bonita Springs, FL; her stepchildren, Karen (Steven) Bazzell, Byron, IL, Debra (Robert Peterson) Friedman, Palos Park, IL, Jeff Friedman, Pontiac, IL; her grandchildren, Meg Kosloskey, Connecticut, Chris Rediger, Connecticut, Katie (Michael) Jones, Connecticut, David C.(Angela) Rediger II, Illinois, William D. Harris, Florida; step-grandchildren, Angela (Michael) McHale, Illinois, Jessie (Dennis) Diduch, Illinois, Kevin Roberts, Illinois; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Eleanor P. Decker, her brother, Robert H. Decker, her son, Mark L. Rediger, and her cousin, Sarah Campbell.
Doris graduated from high school in Hicksville, NY, and attended Adelphi College, Garden City, NY. She later received her B.A. and M.A. in history from Illinois State University, Normal, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity. A resident of Illinois for over 50 years, she was a devoted Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan.
She was employed by Franklin Simon & co., New York, in the late 1940s, The Pantagraph from 1970-1973, and Illinois State University from 1980-2004.
Doris was a 67-year member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Honorary Chapter Regent of Letitia Green Stevenson, Past Illinois State Corresponding Secretary, 1968 Illinois Outstanding Junior member, Illinois Honorary Senior State President Children of the American Revolution, and Illinois State Conference Marshal for many years. Doris was a founding member of the Patton Cabin Restoration Committee, Lexington, IL.
There will be Memorial Service at Christ the King Episcopal Church, Normal, IL, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
Her wish was to have memorials sent to the Wounded Warriors Project woundedwarriorproject.org.

Condolences to Doris' family. She always had kind word and a big smile whenever I saw her. She was a special lady and will be missed by me and so many others. God Bless you, Doris
