Gary Adkisson Obituary
March 19, 1953 - October 2, 2024
DOWNS - Gary D. Adkisson, 71, of Downs passed away at 3:37 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at his home.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Noon at Downs United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Kibler Brady Ruestman Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Downs. Memorial contributions may be directed to Downs United Methodist Church, American Diabetes Association, or American Heart Association.
Gary was born on March 19, 1953 in Creston, IA the son of Harold E. and Marjorie Ellison Adkisson. He married Donna McCarty on June 22, 1974 at Downs United Methodist Church. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they had three sons.
Survivors include his loving wife, Donna Adkisson; sons: Gregory D. (Dawn) Adkisson of Normal, and Chad E. Adkisson of Downs; grandchildren: Abigail and Daniel Adkisson of Normal; brother, Ken (Dorothy) Adkisson of Downs, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bradley; his parents; a brother, Ed; and sister, Judy.
Gary grew up in the Bloomington/Normal area. He graduated from Normal Community High School class of 1971. He worked at several power plants. He was also an ironworker, carpenter, and millwright. He worked at Bridgestone Firestone and later at Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville, retiring in 2020. Gary loved motorcycles and working on Cushman's with his son and brother. He was a member of Cushman Trucksters and also Wisconsin Engineers. He loved WWE and Star Trek and his dog Daisy. He will be missed by all who knew him.
