Jeffery Highland Obituary

Jeffery A. Highland

April 19, 1958 - March 25, 2024

NORMAL - Jeff Highland, age 65, passed away peacefully at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, IL, from pancreatic cancer.

He was born on April 19, 1958, to J. Colleen (Nichols) Highland and Arthur Highland, His parents preceded him in death.

Jeff is survived by a brother, Brad Highland and a sister, Beth Weier. He also leaves two nephews: Doug (Stacey) Weier and Max (Sarah) Highland; and one niece, Amanda Weier. He is also survived by great-nieces: Runa and Josie Weier.

Jeff attended Lexington, IL, schools where he played football and the trombone. He went on to earn his Associates Degree from Columbia College of Missouri in Travel Administration. He worked for the airlines, starting with Britt Airlines, locally, then with United Airlines in Chicago at O'Hare and Meigs Field. After retiring, he became a massage therapist in Chicago and in Bloomington.

No one made more life-long friends than Jeff and his friends were from many places, many cultures and every station in life. Also, Jeff had a lifelong fascination with words and vocabulary. He was a good cook and loved 80s techno music and faithfully attended to his daily devotions. He'll be remembered by us for his empathetic outlook on life, for listening and laughing with us and for helping others he came across. He made friends wherever he went and he was the social center of every group. We will remember Jeff for his wicked sense of humor and that he loved us. Jeff was loved and will be missed.

To honor his memory, there will be a Celebration of Life at the Holiday Inn in Normal on May 24, 2024, starting at 3:00 p.m. We invite everyone who knew Jeff to join us to remember his remarkable life.

Jeff was so kind and caring...funny and smart! His command of the English language and ability to tell a story has so richly enhanced my life over all these years. He made the best of Chicago and then of Bloomington. Able to regale me with stories of both locations that gave me countless hours of laughter and joy. All the different kinds of people he met along the way from such varying backgrounds; he had a fascinating story about each one of them that again gave me countless hours of enjoyment. I always loved seeing his name pop up on my phone, knowing I was in store for another one of his experiences to sit back and listen to.... He truly loved all his friends and he taught me how to be more kind and caring of mine. Thank you Jeff for being a part of my life over all these years. I am truly thankful. Although his last stage of life brought about a lot of health issues, it gives me peace of mind to know he is at peace now! Thank you again, Jeff for all these years of true friendship. I am truly grateful.

A loving and good friend even though we did not see one another often. Jeffery had an edible spirit and contiguous positive view on life. Although he experienced many personal trials and tribulations, he had a steadfast optimism. Rest peacefully now dear friend and you are in my memories. Best, Rick Garcia
