Jennifer Dameron Obituary

Dr. Jennifer S. Dameron

November 18, 1973 - November 7, 2024

Jennifer S. Dameron, 50, of Towanda, passed away, Thursday, November 7, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Her funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, Normal, with Rev. Timothy Fitzner officiating. A private family burial will be in Pennell Cemetery, Towanda. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 14, at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be directed to Paltown and Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

Jennifer was born November 18, 1973, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of John and Kathleen (Winkels) Sherlock. She married Jeffrey C. Dameron on June 20, 1998, in Godfrey. He survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jack, Anne and Max Dameron; her parents, John and Kathleen, of Brookings, SD; a sister, Jill (Clay) Nance of Austin, TX, and their children, Reese, Maddy and Kate Nance; a brother, Alex (Sarah) Sherlock of Cohasset, MN, and their children, Ryleigh, Luke, Hunter and Hudson Sherlock; maternal grandmother, Ruth Winkels, Canby, MN; parents-in-law, Gary and Sharon Dameron; two sisters-in-law, Christy Schumaker of Lexington, and her children, Tyler, Trevor (Emily) and Tanner; and Julie (Levi) Leake of Lexington, and their children, Grayson, Lydia and Alice Leake; and a brother-in-law, Jay Dameron; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Walt Winkels, Lyman Sherlock and Thelma and Carl Hogan; paternal grandparents, LaVerne Dameron and Chuck and Glenna Murray, and mother-in-law Linda Dameron.

Jennifer graduated from Alton High School in 1992 and went on to attend the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated in 1996 with a double major in Chemistry and Biochemistry. She then attended Creighton Medical School and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from the University of Illinois Medical School in 2000. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis in 2004. Upon completing medical residency, she joined Dr. Sharon R. Weaver and Associates in Bloomington, IL. Jennifer and Dr. Weaver opened Central Illinois Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2010. In 2013, Jennifer was Voted #1 Doctor in the Pantagraph Reader's Choice Awards. She continued to practice and serve patients as recently as September of this year.

Her love and dedication to her patients was felt throughout this community. She was not only known for her expertise and knowledge, but also for her inspiring ability to connect with patients and their families. Her kind, passionate and caring bedside demeanor was appreciated by those she cared for. She experienced a great deal of joy and satisfaction with each new child that she delivered. She was a doctor who felt like a friend.

In addition to a successful career, Jennifer's most impactful and satisfying legacy was being mother to her three kids, Jack, Anne, and Max and wife to the love of her life, Jeff. She enjoyed a great deal of pride and happiness from watching her kids excel in sports, academics, and exhibiting angus cattle. Her constant encouragement and guidance provided a loving foundation for her children's success.

Jennifer offered an incredible optimism and hope to so many that she encountered through her battle with colon cancer. Since being diagnosed in February of 2020, she routinely advised and consulted with those affected by the disease both locally and throughout the country. Her encouragement for second opinions and early detection positively impacted and saved the lives of many.

Jennifer's life after diagnosis was not defined by her disease. She continued to live life to the fullest, enjoying moments with those she loved, following the happenings of the Royal Family, and finding humor in her courageous battle. She impacted so many that she crossed paths with, even if it were for a brief moment. Many have described her as one of the "nicest and kindest" souls they have ever met. She was our angel on earth and will be forever missed.

Yesterday

I'm so sorry to hear about Dr. Dameron!! I just found out yesterday. She was by far my favorite doctor ever. She was so caring and willing to take time to listen. Even though my appointments with her weren't my favorite ones to go to, I was always glad to get to see her. Belated condolences to the family.

I just today learned she had passed. My heart is broken for her family and friends. I was a patient who considered her a friend. She reached out to me after my 2023 colon cancer diagnosis, which was detected at my annual office visit. She clued me in to Colontown and many other options. I was looking forward to seeing her at my appointment this week. She will be greatly missed. I regret not knowing of her passing until now.

Dr. Dameron was a phenomenal Doctor. Back in 2010 she and another Doctor saved my life when I had some medical issues with a pregnancy. If it wasn't for her I would not be alive today!! This breaks my heart. My prayers and condolences go out to her family.

Dr. Dameron was more than just my doctor, she was a friend. Not too many people can say that they look forward to their annual appointment, but I did. She helped guide me through three pregnancies and was my cheerleader the whole time. And when my husband started his cancer journey, she was right there along side us with advice, compassion, and commiseration. I'm so devastated by her passing. I was only a few months away from being able to catch up with her again and to learn how she was, and it feels stolen somehow. She was the best person to have in your corner when things weren't looking up. She had a positive outlook on every problem. I was in awe of her as a physician and a person, and she is so greatly missed.
