Julie Israel Obituary

Julie Egbert Israel

May 16, 1939 - July 28, 2025

Julie Egbert Israel of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Bloomington, Illinois, passed away on July 28, 2025. Her life will be celebrated at South Lake Christian Church in Groveland, Florida this fall.

Julie was born May 16, 1939 in Syracuse, New York to Norman Lyle Egbert and Grace Baker Egbert. She graduated from Churchville Chili Central High school in Churchville, New York in 1957. She received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from State University of Oswego in Oswego, New York in 1961 where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi national education honor society. It was at Oswego she met her husband of 63 years, Everett Israel. She later went on to complete her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1991 from Eastern Michigan University.

Julie and Everett were married June 30, 1962. Everett survives her along with their three children: Jeffrey Israel and his husband Brent Seth of St Clair Shores, Michigan; Michon Israel Wieland and her husband Mike Wieland of Normal, Illinois; and Jonathan Israel and his wife Jennifer Israel of Orlando, Florida.

She was a beloved grandmother to: Cassie Wieland and her husband Adam Holmes of Rosendale, New York; Faith Wieland Storm and her husband Quinn Storm of Dallas, Texas; Caroline Wieland of Chicago, Illinois; Madelyn Israel and Grant Israel of Orlando, Florida.

Julie was a gifted teacher. She began her career teaching second grade and ended it teaching preschool at a program for high risk children. She was known for her generous hugs and homemade play dough. In retirement, she and Everett traveled the country in their RV and eventually settled in Leesburg, Florida. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and supervising Everett in his wood shop.

Julie had unwavering support for her family. She was selfless and endlessly loving. The loss of her steady presence is immeasurable.

In the 1985-86 school year my son Jonathan attended preschool at St. John´s Lutheran with Mrs. Israel as his teacher. I still remember her as a gifted and loving teacher and I was grateful my son had her for his first experience with school. My condolences to her family.
