Leslie "Gene" Brown

January 17, 1933 - December 7, 2024

BLOOMINGTON - Leslie "Gene" Brown, age 91, of Bloomington, IL passed away at 11:46 a.m., on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL. His Visitation will be 10 to 12 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2024, at Eastview Christian Church, Normal IL. His funeral service will be 12 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2024, in the sanctuary at Eastview Christian Church, Normal IL. Pastor Scott Patterson will be officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the church after the service by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Bloomington, IL. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or ALS. Arrangements are being handled by Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL.

Gene was born January 17, 1933, in Kappa, IL, the son of Leslie and Faye Sparks Brown.

He married Lois Bigger in 1953 in Hudson, IL. She passed away September 4, 2006. He later married Mary Ellen O'Neil Lake on June 20, 2009, in Bloomington, IL. She survives.

Also surviving son, Terry (Susan) Brown, Normal IL, Pam Rogers, Grand Rivers, KY, Becky Thomas, Normal, IL; four grandchildren, Tyler Brown, Phoenix, AZ, Mitchell Thomas, Normal, IL, Shelby Brown, Normal, IL, Jessica Durbin, Smithland, KY; four great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Todd Lake, Milton, GA, and Tracey Lake, Bloomington, IL.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents; and a stepdaughter Tami Lake.

Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had been a manager at General Telephone Company until he retired in 1990. Gene enjoyed fishing and golfing with the "Prune Juice League." Gene had a smile that would light up the room. He was a handyman and built his own house in Hudson. His family always came first. Gene was well liked by everyone and had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Sandy Fike told me Gene Brown had passed away recently. I worked in the same department with Gene for several years. He was an amazing person and always was helpful and smiling. When my late husband Joe Kniery (who also worked at GTE) passed away he attended his visitation. My condolences to his family.
