Lloyd Young

1968 - 2025

Lloyd Ross Young, 57, of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, August 23, from injuries sustained in a bicycling accident near Bloomington.

Born in Bloomington to Gary and Lois Young, Lloyd graduated from Normal Community High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he performed with the Marching Illini and was a photographer for The Daily Illini. He earned a master's degree in Visual Communication from Ohio University.

His journalism career spans over 35 years. He was a photographer at The Morning Journal in Ohio, and The Pantagraph, and photo editor for the Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers in Florida before joining The Boston Globe in 2006. His work earned national and international recognition.

Lloyd was an accomplished endurance athlete. He competed in countless races including the IRONMAN triathlon in Lake Placid twice, New York City Marathon, and 745-mile Paris-Brest-Paris cycling race in France.

Lloyd married his wife, Britt (Carlson) Young, in 2001. Their son, Luke Jeffrey, was born in 2003, and son, Benjamin Axel, in 2005.

He is survived by Britt, Luke and Ben; mother, Lois Young; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Young; sister, A'lory Borstad; and grandparents Lewis and Opal Zimmerman and Walter and Frances Young.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 28, at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 211 N. School St., Normal, Illinois.

Lloyd's family and friends remember him for his talent and tenacity, kindness and encouragement - values he lived by and passed on to others. As he often reminded his sons and friends:
