Luke Martin Stremlau, 42, of Normal, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 17, at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, beginning with a bagpipe tribute in honor of his years with Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums. A private family graveside service will follow later at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal.
Born November 29, 1982, in Bloomington, Luke was the son of Martin and Lucy (Untz) Stremlau. He is survived by his mother, Lucy Williams of Normal; sister, Katie (Brandon) Burnette of Bloomington; brother, Timothy Stremlau of Decatur; nephew, Benjamin Burnette; and niece, Cece Stremlau of Normal. He was preceded in death by his father.
Luke served as Executive Director of the Bloomington Election Commission, appointed in 2022. He was known for his intellect, integrity, and service to his community.
An avid photographer and collector, Luke found beauty in timeless aesthetics. He especially loved tiki art and culture, often wearing his signature Hawaiian shirts and surrounded by his collection of tiki mugs - a reflection of his joyful, easygoing spirit.
He will be remembered for his gentle nature, humility, and quiet strength - a devoted uncle, loyal friend, and kind soul who made those around him feel valued and heard. As one friend shared, "The world is not nearly as bright today as it was just yesterday - and the air doesn't hold the same tune."
Luke will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.
