Marlene Sylvester Obituary

Marlene Jo Sylvester

February 27, 1950 - November 6, 2024

NORMAL - Marlene Jo Sylvester, 74, of Normal, passed away at 4:05 a.m., on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Carle-BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, IL, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis and congestive heart failure. A private family grave-side service will be held at Oak Grove cemetery, LeRoy, IL. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home LeRoy is in charge.

Marlene was born on February 27, 1950, in Tucson, AZ, the daughter of Joseph C. and Marcella L. Gabbert Bradshaw. She married David Eugene Sylvester on June 13, 1981, in rural Hudson. He survives in Normal. Also surviving are her daughters: Shawn Buckner and Beth Eardley; grandsons: Jalen Buckner and Jeremiah Buckner; granddaughter, Bianca Brown; great-grandsons: Cameron Buckner and Juelz Buckner, all of Texas; her brother. John Bradshaw of Tennessee; sisters: Cathy Hearn of Tennessee and Christina Phillips of New Mexico; her mother-in-law, Linda Sylvester of Bloomington; and several adoring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Donna Sablotzke; father-in-law Carl Sylvester; brother-in-law, Eric Sylvester; and many beloved pets over the years, most recently AnnaBelle, Sadie, Zoey and Zelda.

Marlene was employed by the IRS for several years and was later self-employed in-house cleaning before her retirement. She loved music, gardening, cooking, sewing, and crocheting.

Marlene was a kind, generous, caring and loving person. She will be forever missed by all who love her, but we take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Humane Society of Central Illinois, 423 Kays Drive, Normal, IL 61761.
