Mary Harrell Obituary

Mary Ann (Walker) Harrell

July 31, 1929 - January 9, 2025

MACKINAW - Mary Ann (Walker) Harrell, 95, of Mackinaw, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born on July 31, 1929, in rural Mackinaw Township to Charles L. and Bernice M. (Darnall) Walker. She married Donald A. Harrell on January 10, 1954, in Minier, and he survives. They were married for 71 years.

Also surviving are their two sons, Kendall (Karen) Harrell and Bradley (Lynne) Harrell; four grandchildren, Patrick (Sheena) Harrell, Andrea Harrell, Brock (Shaina) Harrell, and Breanne Harrell; and a great-granddaughter, Nora Harrell. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Walker.

Mary Ann attended grade school at the Boston School House and graduated from Minier High School. She attended Illinois State University and worked at Funk Bros. Seed Company in Bloomington for 10 years.

Mary Ann was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was always working on a puzzle. She enjoyed baking and canning and was famous for her homemade applesauce. After Don's retirement, they spent many winters in Marco Island, Fla. She was kind, patient, and the best listener. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service, followed by a light luncheon, will be held on April 5, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Minier Christian Church. A private burial will be held at Minier Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Mackinaw Rescue Squad. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home.

I remember Mary Ann and family dearly. They were patients in my dental practice for many years. I always would leave extra time when Mary Ann had appointment because we liked to talk. The Harrell family always reminded me of my own family - my mother's name Mary Ann (now very well at 103 yrs.) and I had one brother close to my age, as are the Harrell boys. There is sorrow at her passing, but also, peace, love, rejoice, and happiness that we will all be together again in time to come. Wonderful memories and love to her family. Rex Moore
