July 1, 1964 - March 11, 2025
FARMER CITY- Mary J. Strum, 60, of Farmer City, IL, passed away at 8:02 A.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Farmer City, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 14, 2025, with Fr. Thomas R. Szydlik Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Farmer City, IL. A Rosary Service led by Sister Anne Walsh will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 14, 2025, at the church. Memorials may be made to Mills Breast Cancer Institute, Urbana, IL. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home of Farmer City, IL, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary was born on July 1, 1964, in Bloomington, IL, a daughter of Richard & Florence Hardesty Workman. She married John P. Strum on October 2, 1982, in Farmer City, IL.
Mary is survived by her husband, John P. Strum of Farmer City, IL; her children, Karla (Brian) Metros of Sussex, New Jersey; Jounette (Andrew) Twist of Rochester, Minnesota; John "J.D." Strum of Farmer City, IL; and Alana Strum of Saybrook, IL; five grandchildren, Gwendolyn; Ivy; Mae; Aurora; and Gerald; siblings, Richard "Rick" (Jill) Hardesty of Farmer City, IL; Marguerite "Marge" (Ron) Roeske of Bloomington, IL; Joseph (Jo) Workman of Champaign, IL; and Michael Workman of Farmer City, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, John A. Strum.
Mary was the Department of Communication Office Manager and Graduate Coordinator at the University of Illinois. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Farmer City, IL. Mary was also a member of Farmer City American Legion Unit 55 Auxiliary.
