Robert Wegman Obituary

Robert "Super Bob" L. Wegman

June 27, 1944 - June 23, 2024

NORMAL - Robert "Super Bob" L. Wegman, 79, of Normal, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on June 27, 1944, in Fort Benning, GA, a son to Jack and Eleanor Schnell Wegman. He married the love of his life, Lynny Jochums, in 1990.

Surviving are his loving wife, Lynny Wegman; beloved children: Benjamin (Justin Maccaro) Wegman and Elizabeth (Joseph DiDonato) Wegman; daughter-in-law, Lori (Gary Jeffers) Wegman; grandsons: Jack Wegman and Carter Wegman; and brothers: Ronald (Wini) Wegman and Richard Wegman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jason Christopher Wegman.

Bob served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He received a Master of Library Science Degree from University of Iowa and then a Master of Business Administration Degree from Illinois State University. Bob served as the Library Director at the Normal Public Library for 35 years, retiring in January 2008. He was instrumental in bringing computers to the library and he was passionate about expanding the children's department and reading programs for children.

For 40 years he was active in martial arts achieving black belts in Taekwondo, Karate, and Hapkido. Bob loved to help others in any way possible. He was a lifelong reader, loved researching the best and newest gadgets, and was an amateur handyman ready to help anyone in need.

As an adult Bob became a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He went on several mission trips to Colombia, Guatemala and Namibia. Visiting Israel was a highlight and made a great impact on Bob's study of God's Word, the Bible.

Every day, and several times a day, he would tell Lynny and those he cared for how much he loved them until the day he died. He wanted everyone he met to know and love Jesus as he did. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 22, 2025, from 1-4 PM at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott with a service at 2 PM.

I remember Bob from the library. He did a grand job of managing everything there. He was always around making sure everything was going well. He will be greatly missed. His community impact will live on. We, as a community, are grateful to him.
