NORMAL - Shirley Irene Lindsey, 96, passed away on September 14, 2025 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL.

Shirley was born on March 9. 1929 in Jacksonville, IL; daughter of Roy Stout and Dorothy Ranson Stout. She married Kenneth G. Lindsey of Lewistown, IL on July 30, 1950. He survives her.

Also surviving is her son: Kent (Terri) Lindsey of Hudson, IL; her two grandchildren: Kyle (Jamie) of Lake Barrington, IL and Kate (Dan) Dexter of Denver, CO; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Marilynn (Robert) Schneider of Jacksonville, IL.

Shirley was raised in Lewistown, IL where her father was the manager of a neighborhood A &P Grocery Store. They moved to Jacksonville, IL in 1944 and she attended and graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1947. After her marriage, she lived in Oklahoma, Florida, and Georgia with her husband who was in the Air Force. They returned to Jacksonville in 1954. They left Jacksonville in 1961 when her husband was transferred with Cities Service Oil Co. They lived in Galesburg, Springfield, Decatur, and they moved to Normal, IL in 1970. They lived in Normal, IL until 2024, when they moved to Luther Oaks in Bloomington IL. She retired from Milner Library at Illinois State University in 1993.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and the Presbyterian Church.

A graveside service for Shirley will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday September 25, 2025 at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville with Rev. Jared Reno officiating. Services are entrusted to Calvert Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington, IL.
