Steve was born May 5, 1949 in Fairbury, the son of Francis N. and Ardell A. Zimmerman Walle. He married Emily Mabry on February 17, 1973 in Gibson City.
Surviving are his mother, Ardell Walle, Bloomington; four siblings: Carol (Gordon) Dremann, Princeton, Dean Walle, Tucson, AZ, Mary (Stephen) Peterson, Bloomington, Richard Walle, Bloomington; and sister-in-law, Karen Walle, Springfield; eleven nieces and nephews: Brad Walle, Kirsten Stuepfert, Nicholas Walle, Jennifer Peterson, Lisa Winkler, Teresa Boyle, Kevin Peterson, Kip Walle, Christine Peterson, Chris Dremann and Erica Davis; and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Steve graduated from Melvin-Sibley High School in 1967, DeVry Institute of Technology in 1969 and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1971. He then began his career as an Electrical Engineer at GTE and retired from Verizon in 2004 as a Transmission Engineer Manager.
He liked participating in bowling, golf, and softball. Steve had a private pilot license and a keen interest in aviation. After retirement he was a smiling usher/greeter at Illinois Wesleyan Athletics. Most of all, he enjoyed working on the farm and spending time with family and his many dear friends.
Steve was very personable and caring, intelligent, talented, and could solve almost any problem. He was a beloved uncle and the respected head of the family after his dad passed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Illinois CancerCare, Carle Cancer Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center for the care they gave Steve.

I was so sad to learn of Steve's passing. He and I were "buddies" all through our childhood years. "You got to sit at he big table ? And who exactly put those olive pits in Grandma's copper pot?" We rarely saw each other as adults but the friendship lasted. I'm sorry for your loss. Everyone will miss that bright smile. He lit up any room.
