Tse-Kia (Kup) Tcheng Obituary
March 14, 1934 - May 28, 2024
Tse-Kia (Kup) Tcheng passed away on May 28, 2024 after 90 years of exploring life. His memory is carried on by his three sons, Tom, David, and Michael, their mother and his first wife, Donna, his widow Wanida, and his myriad of relatives and friends. Kup was born the fifth of 14 children into a large Chinese family. After his undergraduate studies in Taiwan, Kup earned his doctorate at The University of Iowa before serving as the long-time Director of Computer Services for Illinois State University. His friends knew him best as a serial entrepreneur in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. Kup's many projects included Mother Murphy's, Washburn Flowers, The Gallery nightclub, Rocky's bar, and the Lafayette Club. But his proudest achievement was starting the annual Sugar Creek Arts Festival in Uptown Normal. Kup's greatest joy was bringing people together and watching them having fun while encouraging their music and art. "Sugar Creek is the one thing I'm very proud of. And I really do consider it the biggest accomplishment of my entire life."

Kup Tcheng was already a leader in Bloomington-Normal when Ben and I arrived. Kup and Ben immediately became buddies. Ben being a watercolorist who loved music and Kup being an entrepreneur who also loved music.
Kup and his family welcomed me into his circle of friends after I married Ben. Kup even found me a job, teaching computers to liberal arts majors at ISU. I credit him for giving me my first job and work experience...which allowed me to hold many different management positions at COUNTRY and eventually have leadership roles in the Multicultural Leadership Program (MCLP) and Women United of United Way in McLean County. My sympathies go out to Kup's family along with my appreciation for Kup's wise advice and support.

I love his singing and calm demeanor. He always has good things to say about everyone. Thank you for all you and Donna have done for me and my family, Heaven gained a great Angel!
