Grace L. Barry

Grace L. Barry, R.N., of Carbondale died Tuesday at home after an illness. She was the widow of James Barry, who died July 5, 1997.

Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Dugan McDonnell, she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Carbondale, and a member of the Marian Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a surgical nurse and attaining the rank of captain. Before retiring, she worked at St. Joseph's Hospital as a surgical nurse.

She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be remembered for her kindness and how much she cared about others. She died peacefully surrounded by her family. The family would like to thank the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospice for the outstanding care for their mother.

She was an avid reader who enjoyed thousands of audiobooks in recent years, thanks to the Pennsylvania Association of the Blind and the staff of the Carbondale Library.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Marie Morgan and husband, James, Black Hawk, Colo.; two sons, James Barry and companion, Cathy Sisson, Carbondale; and Thomas Barry and wife, Susan, Bear Creek; three granddaughters, Katelyn, Jennifer and Julie; many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mae Kacer, Marge Tinman, Lucille Tully and Joan Delanoy; and three brothers, Joseph, James and Thomas McDonnell.

The funeral will be Monday from the Brennan and Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
