Bernard DeLay Obituary

Bernard "Bernie" A. DeLay of Paradise, CA passed away in Paradise on July 11, 2011 at the age of 90. He was born to Harry and Clara DeLay on June 11, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio.

Bernie served aboard the U.S.S. Suncook during WWII and later worked at the naval shipyard as a machinist for 30 years in Long Beach, CA. He and his wife Edith moved to Paradise in 1977.

He loved to fly and was a member of the Paradise Flying Club.

Growing up poor, Bernie took a special interest in all of the kids in his neighborhood and always wanted to make sure they did not go without the little things like candy and ice cream.

He is survived by his sister Ritta Gunning of Ohio and his adopted family the Nightingales, Susan Nightingale, Brant Nightingale who passed last September, Jennifer Billings, Mary Lago, Katie Van Atta and Amy Nightingale.

At 89 he accepted Jesus as his savior.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 1340 Jeannie Ln. in Paradise at 1:30 P.M..
