Robert Jellema Obituary

Robert (Bas) Jellema of Paradise passed away May 4, 2005, at age 76, due to medicinal complications with his family by his bedside.
He was born April 3, 1929 in West Java, Indonesia to Oscar and Sarnipi Jellema. During this time, Robert survived the Japanese in his homeland of Indonesia and also eluded concentration camps during the War. He graduated, as a Mechanical Engineer at the age of 18. Robert became the Head Mechanic for the Fleet of cars for The Bank of Indonesia. He worked on ocean craft planes, all foreign cars and Indonesia' major diesel power plants.
Robert married his wonderful wife, Bertha January 8, 1951. He became a father in 1953. Robert moved his family from Indonesia to Holland in 1955, due to their Dutch/Indonesian race. He was schooled by Germany and became Assistant Manager to Mercedes Benz. In 1960, he immigrated his family across the continent by sea to the United States, 'The Land of Opportunity and Freedom."" In 1961 the family moved to Paradise, CA. He established his own business, B&V Foreign Car Shop, which is remembered by many, located on the corner of Buschmann and Clark Rd. Robert and his family lived in Paradise for 45 years. Robert is well known for his excellent reputation as an honest businessman, who would work 12-14 hours a day and six days a week.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Sarnipi Jellema, brothers, Hendrick, Victor, Paul, Robert and Otto, sisters, Rose and Elenore.

My father and I want to express to you our sincerest condolences for your loss of a dedicated husband and father. Since I have come to know his children under the most trying of circumstances, I feel tremendous regard for his capacity to be a decent, caring father who nurtured a close, loving family. To us, there is no greater accolade a man can achieve.

With deepest sympathies,

Jonathan and MacArthur Wright
