David Beadle Obituary

BEADLE-David Beadle, 74, of Pasadena. The son of George Wells Beadle, Nobel Laureate, David Beadle was born in Pasadena but lived an itinerant existence that led him to several countries and careers. In the early 1950s he was an Air Force flight instructor in Arizona, and then moved to Europe, where he wrote for railroad trade publications in the Netherlands and Italy. He lived in the United Kingdom for many years, where he was a technical writ er for the concrete industry, roving the countryside in his off-hours with an amateur folk music group. Beadle returned to Pasadena in the late 1980s, where he found a new profession as resident artist with the Pasadena Parks Department. In his final years Beadle was a volunteer at Cleveland Elementary School, where he was affectionately known as "babaji." In this role he was invaluable, writing a Pasadena Educational Foundation Grant to buy the school a new kiln. He also helped out on many campus cleanup d ays and taught art classes for the after-school program, as well as painting several murals and vocally representing Cleveland at School Board meetings. A talented guitarist and fiddler, he was often seen "busking" in Old Pasadena. Beadle is survived by two daughters, Katharine of Houston and Maiwenn of English Harbour, Antigua; a son, John, of Milwaukee, and two granddaughters, Felicia and Victoria, also of Milwaukee. Services will be held at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home (402-443-3128), 911 N. Linden St., Wah oo, Nebraska, Monday, April 24 at Noon.
