David Bennett Holmes

HOLMES-David Bennett Holmes,was born a twin on January 25, 1919 to Arthur Dale Holmes and Bertha Matthies, and passed away peacefully on February 1, 2009 at his home in Pasadena. He was born and raised in Pasadena where he attended Jackson Elementary, Washington Junior High, and John Muir Technical High School where he graduated in June of 1937. He married Dorothy A. Patterson in 1940 and t hey were married sixty-eight years on October13, 2008. David joined the Navy in June of 1944 and was Honorably Discharged at Pearl Harbor in December of 1945 as a Specialist Firefighter Third Class. He had a long career as a firefighter for the City of Pasadena and retired as a Battalion Chief in June of 1974. He was a member of the Pasadena Elks Club #672 and a member of the Pasadena American Legion Post #280. He enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing, and family trips and activities. He is survived by h is loving wife, Dorothy; daughter, Susan Boerjan; son, David Holmes; daughter-in-law Jan; as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 6, at Douglass and Zook Mortuary, 600 E. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia, 91016, from 5:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral service will held on Saturday, February 7, at 11:00am, at Grace Baptist Church, 5537 Temple City Blvd., Temple City, 91780. Interment following at Mountain View Mausoleum, 2300 N.
