Elizabeth Schimmoller Obituary

Elizabeth (a.k.a. Liz) Marie Schimmoller was born on January 27, 1957 in Aurora, Colorado and died on December 11, 2023, in her beloved Pasadena, California. Liz was the first born daughter of Don and Virginia Schimmoller. She was born in a Navy Hospital and was considered the best after-Christmas bargain special they ever received at the cost of seven dollars. Her parents celebrated the role of parenthood and gifted her with six additional siblings: Julie, John, Mary, Katie, James and Ginna. As the eldest, Liz was very accomplished and comfortable in her post of oldest sibling. She was extremely capable of directing, guiding and delegating tasks. She did not shy away from letting you know how, what or when you should be doing something, and with a certain level of authority. She was especially happy when her youngest sister Ginna was born and she was an integral part of her caregiving. Liz always loved children. At a young age when attending Saint Philip the Apostle grammar school, Liz knew she wanted to be a teacher. It was at Saint Philip that she started her teaching career and became teacher extraordinaire. It was a passion, not a job. She educated minds, touched hearts and changed the lives of the many students she taught in her thirty plus years of education. Additionally, some of her favorite students and children were her nephews and nieces, who she thought of as her own.Liz loved all children and volunteered on the San Gabriel Right to Life help line for many years, as she believed in the sacredness of each life and child.Another hallmark of Liz was her spirit of hospitality. She loved her home and always wanted to be surrounded by people. Her celebrations were legendary, complete with amazing decorations, delicious food especially chocolate desserts and lively conversations. She would be found in the middle of all the festivities. Additionally, she remembered everyone's birthday, anniversary, and loss with a beautiful note and card. Many people are world travelers, but Liz was comfortable being a homebody and delighted with all visitors who came to 1830 San Pasqual. Truly all were welcome and because of Liz, we were blessed with friends who became family to us all. She often shared that when you become friends of one of the Schimmollers you become friends with all of the Schimmollers. She lived life on her own terms and "because we knew her, we have been changed for good." Thank you, God, for Liz.Liz was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Donny in 1956. She is survived by her siblings: Julie Kelinsky, John (Sarah) Schimmoller, Mary Schimmoller, Katie (Tim) O'Donnell, James (Maureen) Schimmoller and Ginna Schimmoller (Jason Weber.) She was "Nah" to nephews: Andrew Kelinsky, Ben (Jessica) Schimmoller, Edward (Haley) Kelinsky, Dan (Amy) Schimmoller, Joey O'Donnell, Joseph and Patrick Schimmoller and nieces: Mary Beth (Caleb) Reagor, Caroline O'Donnell, Kate and Caroline Schimmoller.A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on January 4, 2024 in Saint Philip the Apostle Church. Funeral Mass celebrated by Fr. Michael Wakefield, will take place on January 5, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. in Saint Philip the Apostle Church, Pasadena. The funeral will be live streamed on the St. Philip the Apostle Parish's YouTube page.Donations can be made to the Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel Valley or Saint Philip the Apostle School's Blessed Are the Children Fund.

I have just learned of the passing of Liz Schimmoler. She was one of my earliest friends at St. Phillip´s School. We also attended the same high school. I have fond memories of a very loyal and charming friend, who grew into a beautiful young woman.
We lost touch after high school. So sad to be lost at such a young age.
You definitely made a lasting impression, Liz. Peace to you and all your family and friends

Liz was one of the kindest, thoughtful, nicest person I knew. We worked together at Park School, in Alhambra, for some years. She was such a joy to be around. Liz will always be remembered. My condolences to her entire family.

What a beautiful tribute to Liz. I have such fond memories as one of the many neighborhood kids who played in the Schimmoler household and remember well Liz as the mother hen over all of us. May Liz find joy in God's embrace and all the wonderful Schimmolers find love and support in one another in this time of loss.

She was my first grade teacher in 1981. One of my best teachers for sure. I don´t remember why she was home for a time during our school year. We made her cards and our families pitched in and we bought a lot of Diet Coke for her. The school let us walk to her house as a class to deliver the cards and Diet Coke as a class. She was well loved by her students. RIP Ms. Schimmoller! My condolences to the family.
