Everett Weaver Obituary

Gene, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, has passed away at 89. Gene was the son of Clair and Freda Weaver. He was born and raised in Etna, Ohio site of the family farm. He graduated from Etna School, a one room, one teacher, K - 12 School of 17 students. Shortly thereafter he moved to California and enrolled at Pasadena City College where he met Patsy Ann Tully. The couple was married on July 18, 1953 and soon moved to Pacific Grove, California where Gene was enlisted at the Army Language School in nearby Monterey. After 12 weeks of intensive instruction, Gene graduated with fluency in Mandarin Chinese and was deployed to Tokyo, Japan where he was a diplomatic translator involved in the negotiations that led to the cessation of the Korean War. While Gene was in Japan, Pat moved home to Alhambra to live with her parents and soon thereafter their first son, Lance Loring, was born at the Army hospital in San Pedro. Upon his return from Japan, Gene completed his education at UCLA and Pat and Gene settled in Alhambra and sons Drew Duncan and Todd Tully were born at Queen of Angels Hospital in 1958 and 1960. The family's early years were spent in Alhambra and San Fernando before moving to Pasadena in 1964 while Gene was working for the Edison Company as a real estate appraiser. The family moved to Laguna Beach in 1971 and after obtaining his real estate broker's license, Gene joined the Canal-Randolph Corporation where he oversaw the company's west coast real estate holdings. Gene balanced his career with being an extraordinary father and husband all three sons graduated from Laguna Beach High School and subsequently from: Georgetown University (Lance), The American College in Paris (Drew), and the University of Southern California (Todd). From an early age, Pat and Gene instilled in their sons the importance of education and later were instrumental in establishing the Weaver Family Scholarship at Laguna Beach High School which the family renamed the Patsy Ann Weaver Scholarship. Pat and Gene resided in their Laguna Beach home on Cliff Drive for over forty years and loved meeting and getting to know the many recipients of the scholarship. Gene and Pat traveled extensively and even made it to China in 2003 where after a fifty-year respite Gene dusted off his Mandarin language skills. In 2018, Gene still had the "get up and go" mentality to embark on a 6 month round-the-world cruise. Upon retiring from Canal-Randolph, Gene founded IC Properties with his long time friend and business partner, Bob Cook in Rancho Mirage and became a consultant to MBNA on a variety of real estate matters. After Pat's passing in 2013 Gene became a full time resident of Rancho Mirage and enjoyed a wonderful circle of friends who he shared many meals with at Le Vallauris and Si Bon. Gene (Grandpa) will be dearly missed. He leaves behind his son, Lance, his wife, Karyn of Wilmington, DE and granddaughters, Logan Read (Tyler) of Boston, MA and Loring Knott (Austin) and great granddaughter, Hayden Hammett Knott of San Marino, CA; son, Drew, his wife, Carol and granddaughter Kaila of San Clemente, CA; and son, Todd, his wife, Jane and grandson Nat of Laguna Beach, CA and granddaughter Dana of Cambridge, England. A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. In remembrance of Gene's life, a donation may be made to: The Patsy Ann Weaver Scholarship, Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 1569, Laguna Beach, CA 92652-1569
