John Stugeon
January 23,1936 -
December 12, 2013

John, Sturgeon, a 44 year resident of San Marino, lost his battle with ALS on December 12 2013. A southern California native, John graduated cum laude from Stanford University, and following two years of service in the US Navy, earned his JD from Stanford Law School. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Ann, their son James and his wife Jennifer, their daughter Anne and her husband Stoycho Draganoff and four grandchildren Madison, Emma, Niko and Lily.
He was a litigator with White & Case LLP where he enjoyed a successful business and trial appellate practice. John was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a founder of the 4,000 member Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
He was a passionate supporter of the arts, serving as Overseer of The Huntington Library and Chairman of the Getty Museum Conservation Council. His interests in art, wine, food, music and local community organizations resulted in serving numerous organizations including President of the Valley Hunt Club, President of the San Marino Community Church Foundation, Secretary of The California Club, Chairman of the Wine and Food Society of Southern California and Chairman of the California Vintage Wine Society. He also found time to enjoy tennis, gardening swimming and hiking.
John was a devoted husband, father, friend and colleague and will be missed universally by those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at San Marino Community Church on Friday, January 10 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to The Les Turner ALS Foundation, 550 W. Touhy Avenue, Suite 302, Skokie, IL 60077-3254, or to The Huntington Library Attn: Cris Lutz, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA 91108.
