Manuel de la Torre Obituary

de la Torre-Manuel de la Torre, beloved wife Juliette and family share that our dear husband and father, Manuel de la Torre, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2005. Manuel was born in Aguas Calientes, Mexico in 1918. His historic murals at Lincoln High School in Los Angeles, painted while he was a student there, survive to this day. Manuel served as a Sargeant in the Army Engineer Corps in the Pacific during WWII. From the late 1940's to his de ath, Manuel tiredlessly served his community and church. Through his construction company and volunteer efforts he graces our area, as well as Mexico and American Samoa with hospitals, convents, churches, schools, orphanages, commercial buildings and custom homes. He held one of the longest continuous active contractor's licenses in Los Angeles County, with projects still "in the works" as he passed. He will also be remembered for his designs and float work for Sierra Madre's entries into the annual Rose Pa rade. To honor his legacy of service and concern for others, his family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Miguel Scholarship Fund at La Salle High School, 3880 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, February 19 at 11:00 AM at St. Rita Church on Baldwin and Grandview in Sierra Madre. Private interment will take place on Sunday. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena.
